Feldon, I think that topic was over in GW and came about when Fusion was describing colors.
This is the first time I've read all the way thru this thread b'c I just haven't been keeping up. Oh how beautiful to see the ripe fruits of tomatoes, peppers and eggplant as I look out at my frozen backyard. We've been having a mild winter so far with no real snow, as in just occasional sugar coatings, but as I glance to my left to my wireless temp gauge I see that the temps have warmed up to zero. But still no significant snow in the picture. Grub, I really do like Sophie's Choice as well, and what a fluke in getting that variety from Barry Comdon when he was an OTV subscriber. So many folks have asked about the name, but he got it unnamed and when I asked him to name it he deferred to the woman who had given him the seeds and it was she who named it. As I gaze at all your terrific pictures I just hope the less than 15 plants I hope to have this summer will give me lots b'c that didn't happen last summer. it's going to be dicey getting plants in, someone else has to do it, and I'm really trying hard to get the surgery date for the new right hip confirmed and was to see my surgeon yesterday to talk over lots of stuff and get the authorization, and I was ready to go yesterday AM and had called my snowplow man to spread some sand by the car after he got it out of the garage for me, since we did have some of that ice storm, but then at about 8AM I got a call from Julie telling me that there was no power in the medical building I was supposed to go and so they weren't driving down from Glens Falls to Greenwich. Hey, was that a sentence or what? So keep those pictures coming b'c what I have to use for tomatoes are the rock hard supermarket brand that Angie gets for me when she does my grocery shopping. last night when I was fixing dinner I decided to eat the wee green label on the tomato b'c they say it's edible and I wanted to see how it tasted. Couldn't taste it but I'm still alive today.

Tom, Kosovo is a nice pink. Sometimes on the ripening fruits one can see very faint green lines, but it ripens up to full pink.
bc, I beat you to this one.

Actually, I think Kosovo might be pink. It looks that way on the pic in the spread above my post. I'll confirm this in the near future as other fruit are ripenng. Maybe a tad hasty in defining the colour, LOL.
Some really big ones coming now. Stay tuned. And hope you make some good progress Aunty Carolyn. You're a fighter and great mentor. Many thankyous.... |

*scurrying out to patch just to make sure*
Yep, RL, medium-sized plant, tad more prolific than I may have inferred. I would say possibly heavy set. |

Papa Vic, do you want Jaune Flammee x Sungold F2 seeds?
Looks your cross has Sungold's growth habit and JFs fruit set but with more spacing. None is ripe yet. What's the working title? Sunflame? |

Grub,
Yes, if you can manage to harvest a couple dozen seeds, I would really appreciate that. I intend to plant a few F2s beside a F1 at 3 or 4 separate locations (mine and 3 friends' gardens) to see what differences show up in the F2s. Thanks so much for growing the F1 down under. I hope it has some good qualities when you taste it. How large are the tomatoes compared to Sun Gold? How many fruit per truss? Etc. I hadn't thought of any name, but Sunflame describes its parentage quite well I guess. Thanks again. PV |

*off to check*
There are two trusses here but I counted 10 possible fruit on the one on top, much larger than Sungold, maybe more like JF which I also have growing again. But plant is much stronger. BTW: I have two growing off the same stake. Similar at this stage. |

A couple more pics before I have to scoot for a while...
My bench is filling up and still the best big ones are hanging on the vine. Black cherry is really tasty this year. Though I haven't grown it before, if you're reading this Carolyn, I think the possible cross Reisentraube is a stable Yellow Reisentraube. This is my first Brandywine OTV. Awesome big red fruit and heavy... Ciao for now... |

I dropped these off at work on my way through today... the ones with little stickies on them are Stumps of the World.

Great pics Grub.
Just got back from our beach holiday at Lorne to find it has rained here. 17mm that has put quite a lot in the tanks. Heaps of ripe fruit hanging on the vines that I will pick later and tommorow. Will yank most of the greenhouse plants tommorow as well as all their fruit are showing colour. The new plants are looking good and are about 4 inches high. I will revamp the soil in the selfwatering tubs for these ones. |
