Me confused too because you said they were the same thing, so does Tania, yet she says different things about them on her site, and she obviously likes Purple Brandy the best .

The seeds she got for PB went thru 4 people before she got them, and she grew them out and showed pictures in 2007 The seeds she got for MB were sent by me to Jeff Fleming in 2007, her source, and she didn't grow them out until 2014 and showed pictures in 2014. So that's 7 years before growing the one and then the other and we don't which ones were grown outside or if in her plastic hoop houses. Different taste adjectives for the same variety grown 7 years apart does not make me conclude she likes one over the other. Carolyn

Well geesh Carolyn, you are probably right, but I hope you realise that you are making this very difficult for me .
Taste adjectives are all I have to go on! Linda |

I am trying to grind down my 2016 grow list now. The only ones returning for me are:
Fred's Bumblebee cherries ISPL Big Beef Wes I am still a noob at all this and I want to try so many new varieties. Really excited about the Jazz line, Maglia Rosa and Pink Tiger as well as the Dwarfs. They are going to take most of my space, but I want to grow 1 or 2 of many many others...so many tomatoes, so little yard |

Yes all those mentioned will be grown this year. I also want to fit in GGWT, Cascade Lava, several paste varieties and many others...

Burpee's Orange Wellington Hybrid. This for me is a very good tomato -- fairly compact indeterminate, good flavor, and has done quite well tolerating Septoria. I'd rate this right up there with Big Beef, but maybe with a bit sweeter, milder flavor.
Also, Big Beef, Mountain Magic (in an EarthBox this year), and Burpee's Jubilee |

I've got a mix of new to me varieties and varieties that I have grown and liked in prior years. These were all sowed yesterday.
I will set the ones with + signs next to them out in earthboxes at the barn where I keep my horse for snacking. My trainer and her husband eat most of these- I decided last year that rather than growing them at home, picking them myself and bringing them to the barn to share, they should just be grown at the barn instead. That way, someone else does most of the care, I have room for more plants at home and I still get to try more varieties! The rest of them will in my garden at home. I am still considering adding one more small fruited one to this list so I can grow a bite-sized variety in my garden at home to snack on while I work. Have grown before and liked (*indicates that it was grown last year): Red Brandywine Dester* Brandywine Cowlicks Anna Russian* KBX Jaune Flamme* Paul Robeson Pink Berkeley Tie Dye* Blush+ Matt's Wild Cherry+ New to Me: Brandywine OTV Druzba Mule Team Stump of the World Sweet Orange II+ Ambrosia Red+ |

Gryfin,
Nice list, I agree on the ones I tried as good Paul Robeson, and Pink Berkeley Tie Dye. New to me is KBX and Cowlicks, both trying this year, good to know you liked them! One I'm excited about is Biyskaya Roza. It is an early to mid beefsteak type. Early ripening is always good in my zone. A couple I picked up late was Early Detroit, and Early Detroit no 17. I'm not growing them this year but decided to secure them. Local tomatoes got to work, and such an old cultivar dating back to 1909. Others I'm trying are Girl Girl's Weird Thing Lucid Gem by Brad Gates described as a masterpiece. Looking forward to it! Malakhitovaya Shkatulka my first green when ripe. I want to make ketchup! I added Green Giant too. I heard it's good, but doesn't always produce..guess I'll see! It will be used for the green ketchup too. I found a number of recipes, and I'm going to try two of them. Rebel Yell Rutgers Tennessee Suited - I want to try at least one of the dwarfs in containers! Even the seedling is staying small, I'm liking this one already! Sun Sugar to use up old seed Jasper - also to use up old seed. This is a super good cherry with ton's of disease resistance. I would highly recommend this one. Well that's it this year, next year back to trying some pastes! I started a little late this year which turns out to be perfect as I'm weeks away from plant out. It's still super cold out there! |
