All three of us will get back to you, after we vote. Does it need to be unanimous or a simple majority?

They guess that many wish lists may be mostly for varieties starting with the letters N - Z, as last year many wish lists only had A - M's, and were still sent in kind of late. You're right, there won't be a vote. With the bigger boat, one of us is thinking the other two may decide on a mutiny. Last edited by Tormato; March 29, 2016 at 06:16 PM. |

N through Z...hmmm, interesting thoughts, wonder what would be the most desirous of those varieties with that range of letters? |

WOW WOW WOW!!! GARY have you lost your mind? I received the seeds today and never expected what was in it. Now I have to make a bigger garden to give back for the next swap. Thanks for the seeds and doing all this work.

This is my first time try at peas and I have a question regarding crosses.
I planted out 7 different types of peas from the swap, each type in their own 3.3 gal pot. I put them together next to the front walk. They should flower soon, and I was wondering if it is worth bothering to space them out now to try to keep them from cross pollinating. I also have 20 feet of sugar snap rows in the back yard. If I really tried I could isolate each pot by maybe 30 ft. Is that far enough to trust that the seed would stay true? Separating them is not a problem if it is worth doing; they each have their own piece of bamboo and sticks to climb in their respective pots. Thanks in advance. |

Generally, pea flowers self-pollinate before they open fully so out-crossing levels are normally very low. In fact, it would be interested to see a bit of diversity now and then!
Normal garden beans seem a bit more prone to cross-pollination (and one may see that now and then in a grow out, so save seed from plants that are true to type); runner beans on the other hand are said to be profligate out-crossers, so I only grow one variety per year to keep them pure. |

I too am growing many varieties of peas in 3-5 gallon pots. Unfortunately they're not very productive. I got pretty blossoms, then 5 pea pods from the 5 sugar daddy seeds I sowed. And aphids have found them.
I should trial a new batch in the ground. |

I guess I am wondering if they would be "swap worthy", grown this way. I don't expect much production from the pots. Nothing like the walls of sugar snaps in the back yard.

For peas, anything is swap worthy. For a few years now, many varieties (in small amounts) go out to participants, and little comes back for the next swap.
My first guess is a lot of crop failures. 2nd guess is participants like to eat peas (too much). |
