Thanks guys. Likely a busy bee worked on that flower

I'll see what it turns out to be, probably in a pot rather than my soil. I've got one DLH that is growing like bamboo- I don't know what got into it!

Black Bear,I saw two on your list I wanted to comment on.

First, there is no variety called Belarusian Early and this link will explain why.

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Belarusian_Early

Andrey sends seeds to me and others every year and on one side he includes a small paper with the name of the variety, and on the back he lists the traits of the variety, such as early or mid or late season,RL or PL,fruit color and shape and fruit size in grams.

The second is Budai Torpe, but I found that you did get it from Ted, and here's the story behind that one and why Ted wanted it if you are interested.

http://www.tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=38996

Hope that helps,

Carolyn

Thanks Carolyn,

I am a bit familiar now with the story ....I could imagine Andrey still shaking head over this particular misnaming event episode...

I have tried The shelickauski varieties and Orange 1 ...I Just thought I would try the
the " Belarusian Early " as listed by Tatiana's ....as I have tried some that would not seem to be the universal name from before and was most pleasantly surprised by the better than expected outcomes.

Budai Torpe .....Yes I got the seeds from Ted ..What a gentleman and a Scholar ...

I am just happy to still be planting this year ...with reduced varieties and rebuild for next year ...LOL

Cheers .

I don't think Andrey knows about this, but I have to e-mail him next week about this and that,so will let him know.

I have also grown orange-1 and here's a bit about that.

Many years ago Andrey wanted to get some of his varieties to the US. He first asked SSE but for some reason that didn't happen. So he sent them to Lisa at Amishland along with orange-1,not knowing anything about her, many of us did, but when he found out he was so upset that he had done that.

So many of us are so glad that he's decided to participate at Tville, and has for many years now/

Default Sgt Peppers germination test

This is about 60 hours. I think the seeds are fine. BVV- check your seed starter mix for fungus gnats. Their larvae are delighted to feed on sprouting seed root tips. Let new know if you need some fresh seeds, I have plenty and you don't need to send an SASE since you already did. Whenever I start seeds now, I always sprinkle a few gnatrol granules, it's BT.

Marsha, that is great idea. I always forget about them until I see one. It is better to prevent than to deal with nuisance. Thanks. I am starting my seeds. Yey.

I actually have some, just have never needed it. I dug through the pots they were in and couldn't find any seeds, so most likely operator error.

Well just say the word and I can send more. That variety is far too good to miss!

I think Andrey mentioned the variety misnaming story last season ?
last year ? ....somewhere In T-Ville ?
..possibly we were musing over the Shelickauski origins as well ?
I still would encourage Andrey to publish a Tomato book .

The misnaming I was familiar with but not the characters in the story,

I sure hope Andrey and others keep finding/valuing varieties that are appreciated in other parts of the world by other Tomato people.

Andrey listed 283 tomatoes in the 2016 SSE Yearbook along with beans and beets, etc.
And since there are many listed members from many countries, yes, they do get dispersed here and there.

I don't yet have my 2017 Yearbook to see what he's now listing.

Same with Ilex from Spain who SSE lists over a 100 tomatoes and some other stuff in SSE Yearbooks.

I think it was in the "cool coastal 2016 prolific" thread in June 2016 In Tomatoville and other threads Andrey mentioned the name mix up story....I also think the misnaming story is in the history as is listed at Tatiana's site at the "Belarusian early " page.

I just like the idea of the variety as it sounds like a "good one" with good attributes ..what ever it is ...
The seedling emergence were among the earliest in my bunch this year as well.

Question : are the SSE Yearbooks all hardcopy ? or is there digital source of this info as well ?

I am just a mere hobbiest but I like the sounds of the yearbook lists I guess the cost and access is way out of my league for a hobbiest. LOL

I am just happy to have about 40 varieties this year(way less than last year) ...with ample new varieties to try .

Really just a germination test as i have plenty seed. Varieties i grow every year.
All cells are up. If they do well they will go to friends and family in warmer climates.

Second 1020 is dwarf and dwarf hunting. Nearly all cells have seedlings.

This third one is much like yours...one variety per cell, 2-3 seeds. Typo on our seed map...
numbers go from 1-40 then jumps to 90. oops. did not catch that until too late but no
biggie. First and last row i left blank for now. (i have some more seeds coming)

I'll start another tray in a few weeks closer to when i should start but need the insurance
as i always do...

Anyone can simply view what's listed on the Seed Savers Exchange database, which is located at http://exchange.seedsavers.org/page/landing

If you decide you want to request seeds, you can join as a paperless member for $25 in order to have access to the member information. The full membership which includes the print yearbook is currently at $50.
