The bug has a royal crown on its back. I haven't seen one of those either.

Probably the latest plague upon the land fresh off the boat from Asia.
My Vitex AKA chaste berry AKA monk pepper trees are in full bloom and tried to take a pictuer but for some reason the color is washed out.
The honey bees, bumble bees and wasps are feeding on them.
The reason they are called that is because the seeds taste and look something like black pepper and are loaded with estrogen.
Supposedly the monks ate them to help lower their sinful carnal desires.
Keeping with Heirloom tradition the Georgia Rattlesnake watermelon is from the 1830's.
I dont know haw far back the Tender Sweet watermelon goes but it is an heirloom too.

Every year I have tried to grow watermelons here there has been some sort of flop and never have produced one.
Hoping for the best this year.
This year it is new locations and methods.
The shade is killing me in many places.

I think I'm going to get two more bags of the MG raised bed soil for the last tub and plant cantaloupe and honey dew melon.
A wee bit late but we have a long growing season.

Got two 2 cubic foot bags of Kellogg's raised bed soil mix and added the last bag of MG raised bed soil stuff and the rest of the Perlite to the last 40 gallon tub.
I mixed in 8 handfuls of Plant Tone to the top half of the container.
I planted some hybrid honeydew and what Burpees called Crenshaw cantaloupe.
The pictuer showed what looked like a cantaloupe but a crenshaw doesnt look like a cantaloupe.
What ever, the seeds are they are planted and I dont really give a hoot.
In the middle I planted cinnamon basil and genovese basil.
Oh yes the dill is coming up in the first container.

We shall see how this works.

Right after I got all the seeds planted a big gust of wind came up and scattered the remaining seeds everywhere.
Then it came a rainstorm last night.
You couldn't ask for better timing.

How did you seal the hole for the clear water level tube, so that it doesn't self - convert to a drain / ant entry?

I just drilled the hole a wee bit smaller and it is a tight fit.
Cut the tube at an angle to get it started.

The National Pickling cucumbers I planted the other day are sprouting and the mystery cucumber in the okra has two male blooms on it.
More dill has came up in another place.

About the time I was going to give up looking for my dial and spray and buy another one I found it.
I just acidified the garden this morning with vinegar.
This should make the cow horn okra jump.

I used a sprayer this morning. I had forgotten that one of the two no longer works, so of course I made the fungicide up in the one that doesn't. I had to swap out hose and sprayer assemblies.

I am on my phone so please forgive any grammatical errors.
What you will see is 40 gallon tubs sunken in the ground with elephant ears growing in them.
There are no drain holes.
My neighbor said they would start stinking and they never have and it has been years.
I dug out the holes and used the clay soil mixed with leaves to fill the tubs.
They are filled with water about once a month in the hottest part of the summer.
You will see how once a year I have to cut tree roots that have grown over the edge and are sucking water from the tubs.
They can suck a tub dry in a day.
I feed them liquid fertilizer and leaves.
Toads live in the dry cracks around the tub.
This is a very water conservative way to grow water loving plants in a dry climate.
Elephant ears can and do grow in ponds.
Next is yesterdays transplants doing fine in the morning.
The big one flopped within an hour.
The little one didn't, this is no surprise.
The big one will flop again as soon as tbe heat gets to it.

The ants dont seem to know it is there, the tube is 3/8ths OD the hole I drilled I used a 23/64th drill bit.
This is one size down from 3/8ths in fraction sized drills or 1/64th smaller than 3/8ths
I also have number size and letter size bits you wont find in a store most of the time unless it comes with a tap.
The last two tubs have yet to show water in the tube and they aren't stopped up.
To tell if they are stopped up simply blow in them.

I have a suspect Ghost pepper plant.
I dont think it is one but time will tell.
What I think happened is someone swapped labels with another pepper so they could get a ghost pepper for almost 1/4th the price.
If this did happen and that is how it happened that is the same kind of person that would steal toilet paper from work.
If it isn't a Ghost pepper I at least hope it is a super hot.
The leaves have continued to be a lighter color and not quite the same shape as the other plants.

Worth, can you post a picture of your ghost plant ?

I also bought one from HD, long time ago.
I discovered that there were actually two of them. So I divided it up. But their stems were touching. Then I repotted them separately. They lost most of their big leaves but eventually started growing. Now they are planted in the garden. right now they are not even 5" tall but are healthy.
Never before have grown Bhut before so I don't know their growth habit.
I have heard that super hot peppers grow very slowly. My other kind of super hot are 2 Scotch Bonnet that I started from seed . One of them is about 6" tall and the other one 11". But they are bushy. my other peppers like Fresno an jalapenos are 18 -to 26" tall. They all are in full sun.
