Hey Fellow Floridians - Year 2

Night temp last night 73F here.
And I got lazy and complacent and didnt trim all my beautiful leaves to thin them out. Lost 6 and counting large beautiful tomatoes to tomato fruitworm holes. I was able to cut out the cancer, I am going to try green tomato bread. There's a well received recipe on allrecipes site.
Been pruning a lot today!

Ginny - those tomatoes are something else; even the stem is deep purple.

If I read it right, NOAA is now predicting normal temperatures for FL in Dec but warmer than average in Jan and Feb. I don't see much precipitation for FL this winter in their predictions. We could sure could use a rain here.

You Fla growers are killing it this year, I need to get on ya'll schedule and try it here.

I just checked the long term forecast yesterday, we should have less rain and warmer temps to grow in for a while.

Bummer about our warmer weather in January and February. Normal December would be excellent though.

Here's the green tomato bread I made today with the worm eaten big greenies. I just cut out the bad stuff. It came out fabulously.

We lost several tomatoes to fruit worms yesterday. I will dusk them with Dipel again this weekend. I thought we had them under control but more must have hatched out. I have little experience because I have almost never had an insect issue here other than mosquitoes and to think of it I haven't even seen any love bugs in quite a while.

I have got to try the green tomato bread. My squirrels are not as well behaved as yours. They steal a lot of my ripe tomatoes but what really irritates me the most is when they pick a large green tomato, take one bite and then throw it down. So maybe this will let me get some use out of them.

You have heard me rave about Dwarf Beauty King and I just saw Craig post that it will be released for 2017. I am so happy, it is one of of the best tomatoes I have ever grown.

I've also been losing fruit to a soft spot on the top; Thinking it was some sort of worm, I blasted the soft spot with a hose; guts the inside out; no worm.
Not sure what it is, but I've never had this before.

I've been seeing caterpillar poop on the potato leaves of the dwarf plants. I've found the green leaf eating caterpillars and pupa in cocoons sometimes 2 on a big potato leaf. The catepillars are mainly on the dwarf plants with the rugose leaves.

I have not sprayed.

OTOH, I have not seen one aphid.

I've noticed recently a few Tomande tomatoes where the skin is intact but the insides appear to have turned all but entirely liquid. I haven't a clue. It is one of my favorite tasting tomatoes, good thing it is loaded with fruit. Maybe there will be some left for me.

Yes; This except now I see the first signs of it as a soft spot and yank the tomato off.
