Have some real cold for here settling in for the next few weeks or so, below freezing at night and not too warm during the days. Just had a mess of a storm day before yesterday, they suspect an EF0 tornado from the damages done,had some really nasty wind and rain bursts throughout the day; me, I went back to bed and my electric blanket that day, still recovering from being so sick prior to and over the holiday. Some are still out of power, but we got lucky, the cat and I. Belle died just before xmas, she was 13 or 14 and a better dog than anyone deserves. I miss her a lot, her lovely soft eyes and those ears like thick silk, but we all die.

I'm sorry for your loss too Imp. My mother had a small dog for years named Belle. It got trampled by a deer of all things.

We are experiencing some of that colder weather too. It has been a warm last few months of 2018 here, and seasonal temperatures seem cold in comparison. Thinking back to 1983, we had two weeks of below freezing temperatures here. In 1979 on New Year's Eve, there was one of the worst ice storms I can remember. I stayed up most of the night playing penny ante poker with my grandfather and uncles. I was only 14 years young.

We, now besides good and cold weather, add flooding to that. Combined, these 2 can be deadly. The county had been declared something or other, but at least it is not raining right now.

My heart goes out. It’s rough to lose a pet.

Two day blizzard is over, reported total 46 cm of snow and of course very uneven due to the high winds, some places nearly bare other places enormous snow dunes. Will have to get out with the shovel today, but so far it is super cold (for us) -12 C with windchills -22C this morning that is -8 F for a 'real feel'.

The ten day outlook has us on a 'twice weekly' major mess schedule.
Between weekends, holidays, snow days, shoveling days and lets not forget, flu days, we'll be lucky to get one "normal" productive day per week or one "out on errands" day per two weeks. At the moment, even if car was shoveled out, there is such a mess of snow in urban areas it's just not fit. And it will be even worse by February, with the snowbanks so high you can't even see if anyone's coming to make a right hand turn. Horrible winter driving... Just have to hope for a tiny improvement and try to get all errands done at one time! Then back to the burrow get ready for your next shoveling assignment. Even working at home, there's not really that much time for it!

Here in eastern Virginia, around this time, we typically get fairly wet. It seems like this season has been wetter than most so far though. The water table has stayed just about at the surface for weeks. and... it's raining again.

The chicken yard is an absolute mess of swampy muck and the rest of the yard is a large trap of squish.

The temps so far have been fairly mild, though we did have a cold spell several weeks back.

Records keep getting broken all over. Our last wind storm was the worst BC hydro had to deal with, ever. Hundreds of thousands of people without power for a week, some for over 10 days.
Thank goodness that it is a mild winter this year!

P.S. The Chinese Government might not be involved at all so I wouldn't rush to judgement. The bad guys could be anyone from the developers to hackers posing as an update.

I woke up to snow on the ground here today. It's sticking and still steadily coming down, big fat flakes softly floating down invisible ski trails in the air, followed by teeny flakettes filling in the spaces. 17 degrees last night/this morning made it a "I don't want to get out of bed with the electric blanket" day, but sooner or later, one must get up! Though cold and cold in the house, watching the snow falling so lazily, was just beautiful.



Since last evening, the local news reports that 70 vehicle accidents have been reported here. Many folks have trouble driving in a rain, let alone snow or ice, so it gets really dangerous at times. Hopefully, no more fatalities today.
