Hope you get warm Bower, and soon!
The US is headed for some bad weather this week. Got this from the weather channel this morning. https://weather.com/storms/severe/ne...damaging-winds

Wow.. that's a lion of a different color. Scary stuff! The system that brought us the cold and wind today had hurricane force winds offshore, according to the weather man. We were on the far fringes of that one, thank goodness!
We did actually break the record for cold today, though that was set in 1942. Hoping for April showers! |

Whoa, that low out E of PEI looks like a corker. Does it have a prevailing direction?

It's not moving any closer to us thank goodness! Prevailing... away to the north I guess. Winds were NW here.
I just looked at it on the satellite image.... hurricane force winds -no surprise. That's a cyclone alright.... You mean this one, right? |

Sounds like everybody's March is going out like a lion!
Our three day mess has started this morning . A dump of snow followed by a dump of rain and freezing rain, followed by another dumping of the white stuff and winding up Saturday morning. I am pretty much done with my winter quota of shovelling. I don't actually mind it, kind of enjoy it but only if it's 20 cm or less at a time. Lane is about 100 ft long so it adds up! Mixes with rain and ice are deadly to shovel, too heavy. And besides I'm too busy now. All excuses to ignore the stuff, accept being cut off from the world, and wait for a thaw. OTOH if no thaw is in the forecast, I will have to shovel some of it just to maintain access for emergency vehicles, in the event. |

The weather in my neck of the woods is somewhat similar to DFW, TX area. But slightly cooler and less violent when it comes to rain and winds.
We started with some rain at night and continued till about 10 am. Then it got windy. I thought it was pretty windy. But the weather man said it should be about 19 MPH. I had to hold on to my cap . Tomorrow, first day of April , will be better and less windy.

A small bit of rain today, and again tomorrow. Have to get the rest of the soil mixed today, otherwise it's going to get too hot here to be working so hard outside.

So far we got close to 40 mm of rain and only 10 cm of snow from this one. But sad to say, there are two more snowstorms in the forecast this week! That system that hit New York is headed our way and another one two days later. Enough already!
If this doesn't stop, I promise not to post anymore to this thread. Until I see the first crocus. |

Winter's back, last hurrah maybe. Nighttime lows in the 20's-30's and rain/snow mix into Tuesday. I'll sow seeds next week for a last week of May plant-out.

gg,
Raining here still, no snow yet. Fine by me, rain does not require shoveling. I'm sowing a little later this year for most of the toms, I was early last year with the main body. The result was many got too big waiting and I used my back-ups heavily. Which amounted to 5 Big Beef and 6 Brandy Boy's, in turn, too few heirlooms to take to 'Taste of Tomato'. My miscalculations cost me the crown. Not that I'm angry. |

Ricky. I've sown tomato seeds from March 1 to April 1 and know that the later you plant them the better they'll be. Even if they're leggy, you can just trench plant them - in the ground anyway. I've always put the smaller Romas in the buckets as they don't seem to grow as well in the ground for me.
Hopefully we'll have great heirlooms to share at the "Taste of Tomato" - if they ripen by that time. Did you plant any from that fair? I'm trying Isis red cherry as it tasted wonderful. plus your two CY and CV. |
