The color come from the Margaret Curtain in their pedigree. Do they have green shoulders like Margaret Curtain? In my experience, varieties that exhibit green shoulders usually are more flavorful.

Page 11, post 164 shows the shoulders.
I only saved seed from two plants at under a foot tall. The fruit
pic is from last season. They were all in 1 gallon felt grow bags. I may go up to a 2 gallon as I have plenty
extra bags. Real estate is an issue and would rather grow out more
plants having another dwarf project hunt going on this season....

Great! I'll get you some seed this week.

I've recently made several crosses between micros and have grown out the F1s - which were also micro. Therefore, the F2s should also be micro, so it does away with the micro-hunting.

I have (or will soon have) F2 seed from crosses with the SFT carroty foliage mama and papas with stripes, purple/black, orange, yellow and/or fuzzy in their lineage. It would be interesting to find carroty foliage with any of those fruit characteristics. That should speed up the process by a couple of generations.

This is more likely a fall project for most folks, but if anyone else wants to treasure hunt with F2 micros, let me know.

Dan, I'm very interested in any carroty foliage hunting.
I was skimming back through this entire thread yesterday before you posted.
I have a good stable of Fuzzy I just started potting up.
Very slow growers but I like that.
BunnyHopSeed has a FuzzyWuzzy. I need to call it something else...?

My rugosa leaf plants are flowering/fruiting. Calling them LadyWilliam and SirCharles...
Billie and Charlie. (working names for now instead of numbers that I keep forgetting)

Starting another tray of seeds next week, 1010 36cell.
And like last year, Sept 1 and Jan 1, give or take a few days as I need starting to fall on
a weekend.
If your carroty is a hunt I'll give it its own tray.
Looking forward to it! A nice leaf variety trio of micros.

Oooh. Let me see...

The Fuzz (a British word for the police)
Fuzzball (name for cats/dogs)
Fuzzy Logic (a computing term)
Fuzztone (the fuzzy distortion effect in rock music)

Any of them take your fancy? You could also move away from Fuzz and pick Angora or Hirsute or Fluffy or something

I'll send you some F2 seed from a cross between an F4 carroty micro Mama and an F3 micro papa with different colors and stripes in its heritage. I grew numerous F1s and all stayed small. However, some were red fruited and some were orange. I'll send you seed from both. 25% of the F2s should be carroty leaf (If it's a recessive gene, which it appears to be because the Mama was carroty leaf and the F1 was regular leaf). At the very least you should find orange carroty - hopefully stripes too.

This fall I'll send the you F2 from a cross between a micro carroty Mama and micro fuzzy Papa. I don't know if fuzzy carroty is possible, but it will be interesting to see. I'm growing the F1s now. Fuzzy must be dominant because the F1 is RL fuzzy (not quite as fuzzy as Wuzzy, but quite).

It shall be a fun hunt. With all summer grows planted, I need a new challenge,

*a half dozen fuzzy are still in short 4inch pots. So tiny. They would get lost in even a one
gallon grow bag.

My micros are doing really well I have a hand full of these# which are starting to fruit now:

I will post some pics tomorrow. This has been a lot of fun and I can't wait to see what fruit they will throw. I will probably continue to grow out the best of these and will report back. I am wondering if you have a list from your crosses of what has been grown out? I would also like to try for a purple/chocolate/brownish type. Do you have any that would be micro that you would like to have grown?

I do. I will look to make sure, but if I remember correctly I have some F3 seed from an F2 that was purple/chocolate/brownish and almost micro (15-18"). If it goes like others I've grown (dangerous assumption...), You should find some real micros among the F3s - but you will want to start lots to have a better chance.

What's your time frame? I could send some of those right away or I have a bunch of different ones growing and may have more in a couple of months.

I am thinking an August start, so I am in no rush. Maybe if you could send one of those carroty purples and the other you referenced. I like watching the different leaves develop. A fuzzy ( any color fruit) could be fun too!
