We have had none stop Wind going on the 6th day now. I think it is suppose to die down today, but it is been 20MPH sustained for days now and 30+ gusts. The tomato leaves are shredded. I'm ready for it to be over.

Bush Beans info needed:
I finally got the bush beans I ordered. Marsha - Are you growing them in an EB? If so, direct sow? how many plant per EB?

I have purple Cauliflower Almost ready in the Raised Bed and it would be a perfect spot for some Beans. Can I sow elsewhere and then Transplant?

I was reading about a Bean Inoculant - does anyone do that?

Anything else I should know.

Larry - sometimes when I cut the broccoli stalks down really short the remaining stem gets mushy and stinks. Maybe I'm getting it too wet before it gets a chance to heal. Not all of them are like this. Any Advice?

BTW - My more recent broccoli are heading much quicker than the early ones.

It is windy here too, but kinda good for me since whiteflies don't like that kind of weather.

Barb, I am growing my bush beans in an EB. 4 would be good, I am going to grow 4 in that EB. Not adding any new fert, except the cheapo liquid stuff that is mostly nitrogen from urea that I get at HD. This EB already had the fert strip in the center because it was used for lettuce

It has been a bit breezy here also but it seems to be settling down now.
I try to always use Inoculant on my Beans and Peas. Using a granular now but will probably in the fall return to using GUARD-N Inoculant. From what I understand, on beans it is good to go a bit easy on the Nitrogen fertilizer. When I cut Castle Dome Broccoli I usually leave approx 4" of the stalk. Some of
the stalks produce more heads of Broccoli and some shrivel up. Don't know why and haven't really tried to figure out why. Maybe too much or too little water. Possibly a bit of fertilizer around the freshly cut stalk would help. I'm thinking it is a big job for the plant to push out new stalks after the shock of loosing it's head. I have noticed that the ones that produce the best secondary heads have the biggest root ball.

The two smooth beefsteaks on the right are Paul Robeson and is the best purple tomato I've ever tasted, much better than Black Brandywine (middle). I've been trying to grow it several times, finally successful in growbags out of nematode soil. The angle makes them look small, but they are a bigger than the Cosmic Eclipse on the left.

Those beautiful tomatoes look like they would go very well with my Two Star Lettuce which is doing very well.
1st photo is 2 Star Lettuce which grew from volunteers and saved seed.
2nd photo is Vulcan Lettuce which got a later start.

I'm gonna be busy covering and moving in plants today.

I am going to be doing the same thing. I hope covering the tomatoes will work. I have most of my peppers in 7 gallon pots. I will move some inside but I found that a 5 gallon bucket will fit perfectly on top of the 7 gallon pots and the peppers are still small enough to fit inside. I am still hoping the 27 degree prediction is wrong but better safe than sorry.

Larry your lettuce is just beautiful. Are you going to cover it for tonight's freeze warning? You are an excellent gardener. Everything you grow looks perfect and outstanding.
