To slow 'em down , I will keep them at cooler temperature , not feed them but give them lots of light. 5/13 is just around the corner.

Great looking Plant / (s) ! What type of mix in the container, drain holes and rocks on bottom? Puts mine to shame(attached). The big one is a grafted plant from a friend - not sure what it is? It is showing a little purple on the upper side of some branches, and was wondering if I should take off the bottom branches on the graft - only 1 stem - how will it branch out to have another - at least I believe it is an indeterminate!

Thanks. The media is just pro mix. My containers are the "sheet o pots" product. No rocks, just holes in the bottom.
I think I made a mistake using the Osmocote Plus, instead of the Osmocote flower and vegetable. The plus has higher nitrogen, plus minors, which is great if you want fast growth. But if you are selling plants, making them grow too fast gives them a shorter shelf life as a saleable product. Some of my plants are getting too tall and falling over, which never happened before. |

Hope they remain sellable for you! I do it for food and fun - eat 400#'s / yr, am retired and am learning. The bucket with the Dwarf in it was what I was wondering about drainage holes and rocks in bottom - never did a container - I think I will try 5 fine pine bark/ 1 Peet/ 2 Perlite and some Tomato - Tone and see what happens. Don't feel like spending up for the Pro Mix although by the time i'm done the difference for 2 pot's will be negligable.

The pro-mix I buy is $14 for 4 cubic feet at Menard's. Osmocote is the other important ingredient. I do also add Mycogrow.
I have tried holes on the side, instead of the bottom, but I always end up soaking the plant in a shallow bin to water it, so the location of the holes doesn't matter. I think soaking plants is important. Look at that pic above, and you can see plants that are keeling over from lack of water. That's how I water. Deny until they just begin to wilt, then soak until they can't take any more. As container plants get root-bound, soaking becomes all the more important. |

Thanks Cole, great info on watering technique etc. The Pro -Mix all Purpose Growing is good enough. Don't need the expensive Pro -Mix Organic BX or something @ twice that price - that is good with me!

Yeah bottom watering is legit. Faster, better for plants, eliminates disease issues. What are the dimensions on that Cole? I been found solid port on trays with one plant removed and just filling them up that way.
