Quite a line of storms rolled through last night - heavy downpours, amazing lightning display, and a tornado warning based on Doppler rotation. Lots of energy in that system!

Drat that! How far along are they? What kind are you growing, Worth?
I have had nearly mature plants (hardnecks) that were bowed down from heavy wind and rain but they did not break. Early in the season, I'd expect them to come back from almost anything. |

Our next storm is coming tonight, what a messed up forecast "special weather" of course Just name every form of precipitation in a long list.... Extended period of freezing rain is part of it, but I don't know if we'll see it or if it'll change to rain during the night. Temps will be close to freezing for a couple of days but it looks like a nice Easter weekend.

We're in the middle of an ice storm here. Minus 1 C and the rain is just pelting down.. the trees have loaded up a lot since I woke up this morning and the power lines are getting some long drips on them now too. I only hope that it goes above freezing this afternoon, because otherwise they will be getting a dump of snow and ice pellets on top of the ice tomorrow. Bleah April.

I need to send you some of this heat. This afternoon is 89 (31C) and through Tuesday the highs will be in the low to mid 80's (upper 20's C). This might be one of those years where spring just makes a brief appearance and skips right on into summer. Heavy sigh...

The weather is supposed to be cool and cloudy for another week. It may delay my tomato starts (May 1st is my average) by a day or two.

Been cloudy and cool since I planted 14 toms in a glasshouse about a week ago.
They still grow slowly because daytime temps outside is 50 F but in the glasshouse 79 F so big difference. |

we have a miserable east wind blowing at the moment.
nothing good comes from the east. no offense to you easterners. temps are in the 30s, and it has been snowing. the rest of the week is going to be snow or snow/rain mix. no major accumulation is expected, maybe one to three inches. most of the snow had finally disappeared. we had several sunny days, and we had a couple days in the 60s. this too shall pass. keith |

The weather man says we have a "blocking low" to the north of us, so we're in for a few more days of cool maybe sleety "old moon" weather, but signs that we may bounce up closer to average temps when the new moon comes in Saturday.
If not, I am ready to rally all the disgruntled gardeners I can find, light a fire, beat a drum, and whatever old thing they used to do to "drive out winter" !!!! |

My heart hurts hearing about all of y'all's northern weather blues. My wife forced me to retire a year early, and move south 3 years ago. I wasn't onboard 100% to say the least...…..but after the first snowless and warm winter, I was a believer. Tomatoes are already ripe here, and the Big Beef is about a week away. Sunny and 80s here for the past 2 weeks.

Forecast for us is a couple of days of severe storms with damaging straight line winds, hail, flooding rains and a high risk of tornadoes beginning this afternoon. Hopefully any of the twisty stuff stays in rural areas away from towns and cities. Fingers crossed and I will be watching what's going on to our SW.
