having an iceberg near by would certainly win you bragging rights.
what, you mean that you don't have an iceberg? we have been getting a fair amount of rain interrupted by a nice sunny day, followed by another stretch of rain. 60 degrees one day followed by low 40s rainy windy weather which is where we are now at. every single time that east wind starts blowing, the weather goes to crap. we are supposed to get into the 60s by the weekend. i would like to get the plants outside to start hardening off. it needs to warm up. keith |

Getting ready for hottest Memorial Day Weekend here in Kingsland, GA in 30 years. Temps expected near 100 for three days.
We'd love a piece of that "berg" in our yard.

We have been busy dodging tornadoes and flash flooding. Local weather man said last night that we have had 20" of rain the last 3 weeks and then overnight we got another 4-5". Enough already. I will be really surprised if my raised bed tomatoes survive. More daily storms forecast the next 7 days. My backyard looked like a 6" deep pond this morning covering 90% of it.

@SteveP, OMG I saw some footage of the tornadoes on the news tonight, and they said they were around Joplin. The flooding sounds awful too. I hope you have a beautiful summer to make up for the terrors of spring.
@Salt, the wind blowing off ice and/or bergs is soooooo cold. There are always bergs in the spring. Best case they do their thing in March and April. Sometimes they keep coming all summer, so even when its "hot" the dewpoint is below zero. Global warming is giving us a lot of extra ice. |

News of this type is unreal this year. The area where PaulF was under tornado warnings last night. The local news reporters from Omaha drove down to assess the situation on today's 5am news, but by daybreak it was determined that there was little physical damage to populated areas. Flooding has been a major concern since the last episode of heavy rain combined with snow melt.
The main connection, Interstate 29, between Omaha and cities to the north with Kansas City was flooded out and reopened recently after a 2 month partial repair. It may be in jeopardy again. Too wet to garden today. More rain tomorrow. First tomato will be late this year. - Lisa |

We're still dragging on at temperatures well below normal, but according to the forecast that will all change all of a sudden on Sunday afternoon.
Normals for this time of year are 4C low - 14 C high. 10 C was forecast yesterday... we only made it to 3 degrees. That's 37 F in American. So far, no leaves on trees. They know better... |

need to sucker and tie but the soft clay soil is far too wet. On a positive note the kohlrabi at the upper edge of the garden was easy to pull(thin) and transplant. They
had a small root clod but dont know if they will take back hold or not. The extended forecast looks bad for getting into the garden to tie my plants. Starting wen it shows six consec days of over 50% chance. Still far luckier than the folks in tornado alley. The hills of Appalachia have their advantages. |

its has dried out enough here to get the garden tilled. peas are planted.
dandelions are blooming so potatoes can be planted. everything else to follow. temps are only reaching the 60s otherwise high 50s. lows will be in the upper 30s the next couple nights. tender plants are outside, but not in the ground yet. trees have leafed out, and are blooming. they are a bit behind. we just need a little bit warmer. oh, and the black flies are back. you either need to spray yourself with bug repellant or wear barrier protection otherwise the black files will drive you nuts. keith

HAIL!
and 3 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Some of the squash leaves look pretty pummeled but there was not a lot of other damage though I'll probably notice more once the sun heats up tomorrow. |
