There is no Indian Zebra anymore, please allow me to explain.

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Indian_Stripe

At the bottom of the above link Donna told me that it was called both IS and IZ in the area. I chose IS b'c at the time there were several other varieties that had zebra as part of the name and I didn't want to confuse the issue.

After I introduced it way back in 2003 and offered it in several seed offers, then a PL variant appeared which was stable and I offered both of those.

Then someone I know well contacted Burson's son and all he could find in the freezer was a bag labelled Indian Zebra, and there should be no difference between the two,but then the arguments/discussions started, and I had to ask Donna to come here to confirm what I had written, and she did and finally ended when the person who called it IZ said he would no longer call it that, and that after I can't tell you how many threads here and at idig, and I was glad he did.

End of story, but personally neither he nor I, I'm pretty sure, want to see it still being called IZ.

Carolyn, who is just curious where you got your IZ seed from and would appreciate it if you would please PM me and tell me that.

I changed it to Indian Stripe, but added what it came marked as.Without saying where I obtained the seeds, it was stated that this was different than Indian Stripe. So maybe this tomato should have another name?? I dunno

Yes, there are others who do say it's different, which is against everything Burson Sr told Donna, that I know. One person in particular said he bought seeds at X seed company and they turned out to be slightly different.

Let me see if that same company is still offering it.

Yes it is, and here's a cut and paste from the description

(85 days, indeterminate — Similar to 'Cherokee Purple', very productive, very good flavor. It is productive, a compact indeterminate plant, fruits are oblate, a bit smaller than 'Cherokee Purple', shoulders not as dark, but color similarly dusky rose with some occasional green striping. Flavor is best when fully ripe. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.)

So comparing it to Cherokee Purple only.

But there were those who in the beginning saw that the person who got only Indian Zebra from Burson's son, still to this day say that is the only legitimate name which is very wrong, since as I said above if Burson SR said he called it EITHER Indian Stripe OR Indian Zebra,he was referring to the SAME variety..

OK that's enough for now and no,I do not think that any name changes are needed, nor actually warranted and now that you know the background I'm sure you'll agree.

I got most of my seeds this year from Kath's and Marsha's awesome and generous seed offers, so I'm going to have lots of fun tomatoes this year.

I have 20 varieties, and I'll probably plant about 35 - 40 plants.

The first six were saved by me from last year, the next 7 are from Kath (Thank You!), the next 7 from Marsha (Thank You!)

Cherokee Purple
Chocolate Stripe
Pineapple
Green Zebra
Orange Russian 117
Juliet f2

Pit Viper
Pearly Pink Orange
Pink Bumblebee
Indigo Cherry Drops
Idaho Hillbilly
Lithium Sunset
Girl Girl's Weird Thing

Cherokee Lime
Green Zebra Cherry
Reverend Michael Keyes
Dwarf Beauty King
New Big Dwarf
Tennessee Suited
Wherokowhai

I'm excited about the dwarf tomatoes this year, I haven't grown any of them before.

After giving this issue more thought, it was wrong of me to change the name on my list from Indian Zebra to Indian Stripe.I have no right to change the name of a tomato that someone was kind enough to send to me, labeled Indian Zebra and stating that it was different than Indian Stripe.Unfortunately I cannot edit my post anymore.

I guess it is the wishes of most to have one name for this tomato, but if it is actually different and many who have grown it say it is, how can it have one name?I will know more as to how different it is when I grow it.Having grown Indian Stripe Potato Leaf last year and not being impressed at all with it, i have something to compare it to.

And really, it's just a tomato.

Yes it's just a tomato but when Burson Sr said

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Indian_Stripe

that he called it EITHER Indian Stripe OR Indian Zebra, they should be the same.

And I'm not going to go through and again link to all the links I posted previous to this which were many re this variety.

If I were to have someone send me seeds for a particular variety and it turned out not to be the variety
I expected, I would not be pleased at all,and yes, that has happened to me, especially if it was a rare variety hard to get.

About controls.

Methinks you should grow true Indian Stripe and what you think is true Indian Zebra , which you think you have already ,a few plants of both,in the same season and grow them the same way in order to be able make a conclusion.

Agggggggg! I should have stayed out of my seed box. Besides about 50 hearts and some from TV offers here these are on my list for this year. I doubt I'll get to the new ones I bought this year, we'll see how the weather does and if I can get myu hands on enough soil. Have about 10 bags of TT so I hope it going to be enough.

There's only a couple on this list I have grown before. All the rest are new to me. It was a hard choice, but figured to get some of these older seeds sprouted and saved.

Aunt Lou's Underground Railroad
Aussie
Basinga
Blackfoot from 4 different growers
Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red
Crimson Delight
Diener
Druzba
Dester
Dora
Dixie Golden Giant
Eli
Earl Faux
Ernie's Plump
Fiaschetto
Fakel
Floradade
Goji Faranji
Grub's Green Mystery
Gary 'O Sena
Guker's Special
Happy Jack
Hawkins
Harzfevr
Italian Market Wonder
Ivory Egg
Jersey Devil
JD's Special C Tex
Japanese Heirloom ( pink beefsteak from WWII seed)
Japanese Black Trifele
Kentucky Yellow Beefsteak
Kardinal
Kennington Big Red
Koltas
Leadbetters Lunker
Li Cun
Lucky Cross
Linda's Faux
Lilac Giant
Mexico
Mule Team
Marmande
Morado
Manyel
Matina
Malachite Box
Mega Marv
Nyagous
Native Sun
Northern Lights
Old Wyandotte
Oaxacan Jewel
Olena Ukrainian
Orange Minsk
Old Yellow Candy Stripe
Pantano
Pineapple Pig
Plum Tigris
Punta Banda
Pierce's Pride
Porter Charles Herring Strain
Prescott
AGGGGGGGGG What no tomatoes begining with the letter Q? Time to go shopping! : )

Roman Candle
red Barn
Red Cloud
Rio Grande
Rosy Morn
Spudatula Black
Schmatzefein
Santiago
Southern Belle
Sisters
Sulton
Sioux
Sara Black
Thessaloniki
Tegucigalpa
Talledega
Tennessee britches
Texas Star
Taxi
Tangerine Mama
Trucker's Favorite
Top Sirlon
Ukrainian Paste
Uncle Charle's Giant Italian Pear
Vorlon
Velue Striee
Vintage Wine
White Zebra
Dang ...No X's
Yucon Quest
Zigan
Zloty Ozarowski

Yep, lots of variety and plants, but not all may make it growing here. Anything sick or looking really stressed will be pulled.

Now it will be interesting and a challenge to see which ones will do well in my area and climate. We'll see who holds up to heat and humidity and crossing fingers and toes, hopefully no major pests.

My big thing is I hope I can find some good tasting ones. Last year only had two I really didn't care for taste. Year before had 50 varieties and only found two I liked. Lots of work and expense and time if you only get spitters.

SiouxSchwarze Sarah

Starlight,what is the above?

I know Sioux very well, and it should be Sara's Black, bred by Joe Bratka and someone changed the name to German.

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Sara_Black

There was no controversy as I knew since Joe bred it himself and I knew him very well, and he did a sara red,a sara pink,I think, and other colors as well.

The only ones that were family heirlooms of his were from the Black Forest area of Germany and were:

Eva Purple Ball
Marizol Purple
Marizol Gold

And he bred many other varieties that he tried to pass off as heirlooms and Bill M, who is a good friend of mine listed them all when he shouldn't have, but, as many have said if they are good that's what counts, and I agree but I just don't like fictitious histories.

Opps! My bad. Forgot to hit the enter bar after Sioux. Guess it may be a good thing though.

So am I understanding right I need to change Schwarze Sarah to just Sarah Black? Have you tasted it yet?

P.S. Glad to see you have power and hopefully somebody brought you food. I love chocolate too, but too much and you'll be dancing with a walker.

Yes,I would change it to Sarah Black, as Tania's link in post 283 showed

Yes,I still have power, many roads still not plowed, very quiet out there, about two feet of snow and more on the way.

I was able to get out to the kitchen, and back, the latter being crucial, got two sandwiches from the fridge that Martha had made just in case, running very low on cigarettes, but my dark chocolate stash is in fine shape.
