I've seen this group of ducks for several days now as I drive back into my neighborhood from my nearly daily run early in the morning to get Starbucks. Apparently they have taken up residence in this yard. There is a lake across the street. Once ducks do that sort of thing it's hard to get them to leave.

Sometimes I come up on them and they're walking across the street, in single file. I have to stop and wait until they all pass.
They like to take their sweet time about it.

There is a beautiful pond up the main road from us literally called the Duck Pond.
People come often to feed the ducks and geese, and they are annoying sometimes but it’s nice to look at.

You only need to get that brown one to leave, the rest will follow.

My guess is that looks like the female. The other more colourful ones are the drakes/males.

Yep, I've seen them gang up on a lone female in the pond where I walk They can get pretty brutal.

Well I was trying to stay away from that imagery...but yes if could lure or scare that brown one off, they would all leave. They are all courting her. As a rule, hens lead when it comes to ducks. A hen may not always be first to land, but the boss hen is telling them where to go. Even with migration. A 9-10 mo old hen will do her best, even after a 2500 mile migration, to find her way back to the exact same pond she was brooded at, and when she accepts a nice pretty boy that she trusts to watch her back and doesn't annoy her too much, he will follow her home, not the other way around.

Practically every time you see a "duck call", that is a hen mallard call...and many of the hens sound similar. Mallard, black, gadwall, pintail, all a QUACK. Teal also, though faster and higher pitched.

The three on the left are all hen mallard calls. Next is a hen wood duck and lastly a short reed goose call.

Apparently one male has won the heart of the lady duck. The other males have gone away and this handsome guy is the only one left. Guess you could call him one lucky duck.

I'll be on the lookout. I don't know if there is a nest or where it would be since this isn't my yard. I hope the homeowners let the coulple stay. I think I mentioned that there is a lake across the street.

I've heard of tree frogs..this guy is movin' on up from that class! I had to open that door and he took some prodding. I guess he liked that hot air from the shed on his backside.
