Nematode, sorry to hear it. Did you get the green tomatoes inside to ripen or fry?

It's been a nice cloudy day with a good breeze this morning, making 65 feel a lot cooler. Perfect for digging! I got the carrot area forked and the garlic area re-loosened this morning and it was so great not to be drenched and dripping in sweat. It's sunny now and 80 and I can live with that!

Had our first killing frost (-3C) on 28 Sept., possibly the latest date ever. It has been well below freezing most nights since. Garden is totally cleaned up and put to bed, planted the garlic on 1 October. Had a bit of snow two nights ago and it hasn't melted yet. Last night went down to -10 C, but a brilliant blue and gold day for our wedding anniversary, exactly as it was 49 years ago!

Had our first snow a few days ago. Already melted away, but it will get colder.

Salix, congratulations on the beautiful anniversary day! The winter really closes in quickly where you are - I'm always surprised because we think of BC as warmest in the country, but of course it's not so when you're far north. Glad you got your garlic in, and I hope it's a good year for you this time!
We are having a fantastic week here, with today the first of four sunny days in a row and temperatures near the normals or a little better (high 12C low 5 C) which is a relief from so much colder than norm. I got another bed of garlic in today, after we went in the truck to get two scoops of compost, one for me one for my mom's. So I'm all set to start some indoor greens, and plenty to do in the garden for the next fantastic days. |

The new monthly ENSO report from the Climate Prediction Center was in my e-mail this morning.
"In summary, ENSO-neutral is favored during the Northern Hemisphere fall 2019 (~85% chance), continuing through spring 2020 (55-60% chance)... However, chances for El Niño remain between approximately 25-30% through the winter and spring." https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/produc...ensodisc.shtml Maybe, just maybe we're getting back to more normal weather, whatever the heck that is! |

It got down to below 60 for the first time since early spring here and this week it is finally cooling down a bit with highs in the upper 80s during the day. Still no rain. Dry, Dry, Dry.
I'm going to wait a bit longer to plant my greens. I have already started some seed for fall and early winter crops in the greenhouse if I can keep it cool enough for them. I got good germination with my cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli. I spent yesterday spreading some organic matter I picked up from a local gin yesterday and sneezing. Didn't have time to do any watering so I was out with the sun this morning watering until a few minutes ago. I sure hope this drought here breaks soon. Bill |

I came to work today with two jackets.
One is super warm and was intended to be the inner layer to keep me warm. My coworker name of Salazar didn't think it would get this cold and stay that way all day. So he showed up in a tee shirt and was freezing to death. I pulled off may company jacket and let him have my inner warm jacket to wear all day.' Much warmer than the thin company jacket. It better be, it cost BP over 300 dollars and was a gift to me. |
