Dividing Amaryllis Bulbs

When they start to put up new spring growth, she waters them and brings them upstairs to her sun room. She removes any large "pups" and repots bulbs as needed when they start to crowd the pot too much. I think she repots in the spring since she is usually too busy in the fall with other things. I think she fertilizes occasionally, but mostly they are trouble free with very little maintenance beyond watering all summer. This amaryllis of hers is over 20 years old.

Thanks Karen, I will tell her I posted this here. Her sun room is a sight to behold when all her amaryllis are in bloom! This was the hugest plant last year, and next time I want her to set it on the floor and stand beside it for a picture.

Thanks to all for your replies! I looked at them again this morning. 3 of the 4 bulbs are already pushing up a bloom, so I am going to let them go till this winter. Don't wanna try to divide them while they're blooming. Is that right?

I was remiss in not mentioning your pic! The amaryllis in the background is pretty awesome, too!

Here they bloom around Easter. Here's proof. This is a stand of them and I've already cut several stalks and used them in bouquets. I divide them when they are dormant, not when they are sending up shoots after winter.
