Momotaro is one of the varieties I'm considering for next spring so I read this discussion with great interest! What size plant is it? I've only got room for a couple of bigguns and a handful of compact ones so I'm trying to carefully plan.

Flip, i wish others would answer to the size questions as I really did not have the optimum growing conditions for my momotaros--next year they will get premier spots. Mine were only about 4 or so feet tall. I am assuming they should be much taller.

I grew Momotaro for a coupole of years and then got bored with them. The plants were not large; I'd say about 5' at most. Production was prolific, fruits were uniform and had good flavor; but not in the "Oh my God!" category.

I grew them last year and loved them. They are going in again and I did save seeds from one just to see what comes out
Is there a law preventing one from dehybridizing a commercial hybrid. If so I will shut up :wink:

Thanks for the replies. I grew a monster Brandywine this year that completely took over the garden. I tried pruning it but it still grew like The Blob, devouring everything in its path. If Momotaro is smaller than that, I should be able to manage.

Could you post the link to Tradewinds please?? I am growing the F2 Momotaro from a trader and haven't yet tried the hybrid.........anyone else tried growing out the F2?? Patty

I don't quite understand how Tradewinds can sell the seed for so cheap, unless they are putting in like 5 seeds per package.

You are all enablers!!! I just wanted to get that off my chest now that I've gone to the Tradewinds site I couldn't very well leave without buying what is apparently one of the worlds best tasting tomato, and since I'd never grown out Sungold I got it along with Momotaro. They better taste good or I'll know who to blame... (myself!)

I'm growing Momotaro and like it very well but it is not as sweet as Sylvan Guame the sweetest in the world.

I don't really care for tomatoes this sweet. They are a nice compliment for taste testing parties as some folks really like sugary sweet tomatoes.
