Default German red strawberry 🍓

Mine was just a tick under 1 kilo, which is about 2.2 pounds or 35 ounces! Made an awesome sauce. That's an avocado next to it for scale.

I have no idea what it weighed but it was a persimmon that lapped over the sides of the large hamburger buns.
And it wasn't a fussed blossom.
It was the only tomato on the plant.

Jazz, Orange Jazz, German Giant, and Giant Roo have all made huge tomatoes for me, about a pound to a pound and a half.

I suggest to keep this thread active and report your 2017 Big Maters.Or maybe somebody start a new thread.
I have quite a few varieties with potential to grow large fruits : DIXIE GOLDEN GIANT , BIG RAINBOW,
HILLBILLY, ANANAS NOIRE , BRANDY BOY, PRUDEN'S PURPLE.

Steve,

Here is a picture of some "Anna Margaret's Heart" that I grew from seeds that my Aunt gave me years ago. Carolyn has offered it in her seed offer before and Tatiana is doing a grow out this year from seeds that I sent her from the tomatoes pictured. My aunt was born in Missouri and lived there for a number of years before she returned to Colorado.

I have had quite a few go over 2 lbs but not by more than a few ounces. It seems with our heat the really large varieties start ripening before they can become true giants. I have never made any attempt at getting a large fruit but I suppose if early in the spring I pruned off most or all of the other fruit and left a big mega bloom to take all the nourishment on all my big fruited varieties I might get one near 3 lbs. I do grow a lot of large fruited varieties because of their taste like the Brandywines, Stump of the World, Red Barn, Delicious, Stump of the World, Dester, and Giant Belgium. I have also axed a lot more of those large varieties for that same reason.

The ones I can remember that were over 2 lbs were KBX, Gildo Pietroboni, Kosovo, Donskoi, Brandywine Sudduth's, Neves Azorean Red and Virginia Sweet. I'm sure there were a couple of others when I was trying a lot of the big hearts but I can't remember their names but I can remember their lack of flavor. That may seem like a lot but we are talking about 40 years of growing a lot of tomatoes and for me a 2 lb one is a rare thing indeed. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a 5 lb or larger tomato nor do I think I ever will except for the rare photos of them on sites like this.

Dumb? question: Do the huge ones taste good or are they dry or what?
