Harris' "Supersonic." Great taste when picked ripe. Vigorous, but still moderate plant size. Little cracking. Good foliage cover. This one still has better taste (IMO) than newer hybrids.

Default Favorite Red

My SC Ohio garden is mostly amended clay but def orange when deep plowed in the spring. Ive grown the Harris tomatoes, Parks Whopper, the B Boys, NAR, Goliath and a few others. Big Beef outproduces them all and its not even close. I mostly eat the pink and y/r varieties so I cant testify to the taste but I get no complaints from the dozens I give away each summer. Big Beef is truly an amazing cultivar.

A couple of examples I think are just excellent For slicing, Mayos delight is a heart I really liked and George Detsikas Italian red is excellent.

For those interested in seeds, the event of sending seeds of Start F1 is still continuing. My friend Robert from Calgary and I still have enough seeds. Just send a mailing address and in about eight or ten days you can have the seeds at home. This tomato is really hard to find on Google, because its name is a very often used word in English, so some information is on Tatiana´s TOMATObase:

EM-Champion is one of my favorite tomatoes regardless of color. It's a delicious and productive medium sized red heart. Tatiana lists it as determinate, but it produces from 65 days until frost here.

have two EM Champion seedlings behind the window. Both already have twelve true leaves and the germ of the future inflorescence can already be seen with a magnifying glass. One of them will go into the cold frame around the first day of spring and should already have some pollinated flowers and small tomatoes. I don't know yet if I can keep their height less than two feet. I have no experience with them. To be sure, I cut the top of the third plant above the fourth leaf and planted it. This will reduce the height of the plant by four floors, so the plant should bloom after the eighth leaf and should be lower. This plant has only five leaves so far and its delay is about three weeks. I don't know if it will bloom on March 20.

Druzba was rather good for a big one, also I used to have a very big heart a long time ago which was fabulous, but I lost the seeds. Now only saladette size still impress me from the reds, and like 1 cherry.

I totally agree on Red Brandywine. I grow the Landis Valley strain. But Pink Brandywine, though wonderful, is pink, not red.

My favorite is Large Red, but since it is a pain to search on the internet (try searching large red tomato lol) i put a link to it here. https://www.southernexposure.com/pro...ge-red-tomato/. I like the fact that it is really good and was grown before The Civil War. The biggest strength I have noticed is that they seem to handle transplanting really well.
