Good growing! Are those RL or PL fruits ??? Harvested our RL as well last night !!! They are awesome looking fruits - pics and flavor reports to follow ... Also, I want to note that on the NARX RL plant, I may have the biggest tomato we've ever grown ... our record is 1.14lbs! This one is as big as 2 hands ... here's to hoping we beat it ! ~ Tom

These are pictures of the larger one in my last post that looks like a boat and these fruit are PL F2's. As you can see it is almost all meat with few seed pockets. There is no core to speak of and the flavor, texture and juice content it has just doesn't get much better. The other BxNAR I'm going to let it set a couple more days on the counter and then cut it open and see how it is. BTW, the other fruit I just described is history. Ami

OK - I'm pretty sure you are growing F2's (as when Bill Jeffers created the F1 between Brandywine & NAR I grew it out last season which would be F1's) and then saved seed this to grow out this season would be the F2's (hence why we got PL & RL) ... Anywho - ok - The fruits you've posted / tasted are PL ... My RL tomatoes look exactly the same ... man that report reads "tastey" ! ~ Tom

Tom, the envelopes I got from Bill were labeled BxNAR F1 2006 and BxNAR F2 2007. The plants I grew this year were from the F2 pack. Go figure. Ami

I'm 99.9% sure the F1's were grown out last season - making this season F2 and NEXT season F3
Something doesn't make sense here ... I'll e-mail Bill ~ Tom ps. I'm also pretty sure your pics are of F2 fruits

e-mail to Bill:
Just needed to clarify something: Last season (2007) we both grew out your F1 seeds (This was an intentional cross from 2006 between Brandywine and NAR) Our saved seeds from 2007 produced PL & RL varieties this growing season 2008: and these are F2's Saved seeds from tomatoes from this 2008 season will be F3's (2009) - Unless I'm missing something - this is where we're at right ? I hope all is well, ~ Tom ------------------------------- reply: Yes. Everyone is growing either F1 … the original cross made in 2006, or F2s … the seeds removed from the hybrid plants grown in 2007. This is why I mailed out 24 – 36 seeds to each person who got F2s … to give them a good chance to get a good batch of PLs, because you only can get one PL per 4 seeds average. I did not send F1 seeds out except to No. Hemisphere growers and only to you and a couple of others. Everyone is growing F1 or F2 plants this year … or both. By the way, we have two RL F2 plants here with huge pink tomatoes that taste great … better than the F1s. Looks like Ami has the best F2 PL so far. Bill

Tom, I got it and your right. Had a brain dump and thanks for getting me on the right track. I changed my posts to read F2. Ami
