Charline, I totally forgot to get back here about the Shah tomatoes you showed in a picture.

Shah has been extinct for many decades. First see this thread from 2008 about Shah,

WWW had been circulating what he called Shah so his seeds are out there somewhere, but it was determined that what he was sending out was the variety White Potato Leaf, as Tania also mentioned.

I guess perhaps the only place still offing it, meaning White Potato Leaf, is Tomatofest.

Lithium Sunset keeps quite well on the plant but not so well after picking. It is a soft fruit.

Lithium Sunset is very tasty. Got a 9/10 from me and will be back every year. But its hard to describe the flavor, its almost a mix of every flavor a tomato can have and it lasts long in the mouth.
And ...... it is very productive. I had about 20 of them and there are still ripening fruits all over and flowers everywhere.

Fred, are you the breeder of Lithium Sunset? if yes, can you tell me something about its history? I cant find any informations and it was hard to find seeds. But I fell in love at first sight and I am even more in love now I have tasted it.

In that thread you'll also see that paddymc has used it for many crosses and two of the crosses of the four he's sent to me that involve LS will be in the Experimental section of my upcoming seed offer.

If you mean by history what parental inputs did Fred use to create Lithium Sunset, that's up to Fred as to what he wants to share.

Yes. Lithium Sunset is a line I had.

The short story is:

1. Speckled Roman and Northern lights are it's two most important ancestors.

2. I considered the variety to have 2 main shortcomings, which is why I never formally released it -- First, it has very short shelf life, and as a farmer, this was very frustrating. Second, the shape was very variable, and that didn't go over well when it came time to sell the tomatoes. A few mis-shapen tomatoes are OK with my main buyer, but mis-shapen seemed to be the rule with Lithium Sunset.

3. I kept working on developing a variety with the same color combination and flavor, but with more uniform and round shape, and with better shelf-life. The result is Yellow Jazz, which will be available soon.

Fred, if you didn't formally release it where did paddymc and the others get their seeds for Lithium Sunset from?

Just curious, as is somewhat normal for me.

It was informally released. Just sent some seed around, and it got shared.

We dropped that particular line, and started working with, and re-crossing a sister line that was more rounded, and more firm.

I don't think I even have any seed anymore.

Fred, would you mind if I spread it around? I really like it and I think many of tomato-friends will appreciate it. I like the ribbed and often mishappened look and if everybody knows what they will get (soft and not a long keeper) they will be happy too. The flavor is really superbe.

I think that sooner or later your Green Doctors Frosted, if you put out enough plants will give you green Doctors with a yellow epidermis as opposed the clear epidermis of the frosted one. It seems to have a mind of its own in going back and forth on epidermis colors, same as we see even today with the original red Fish Lake Oxheart going back and forth from red ( yellow epi) to pink ( clear epi)


Wondering where you got your Selbos from since I had three folks doing seed production for that one which will be offered in my upcoming 2015 offer. My seeds directly from Mike Selbo at the original Garden web.

And Mike recently joined Tville and is posting. Two of the folks IDED ASAP the pictures he put up as being his Selbo and we all had a good laugh about it/

But you can see from that link that he did send seeds to others as well, thus my question about your seed source.

I like the one you are growing for me in your flower bed, never heard of it before, but I'm sure you'll tell me more/
