Went out and did a rough measure of the trail of neighbour's plant...had one long runner, it was at least 25 feet from my measurements, with what appeared to be regular green zucchini (when small, and when one at the base got big), exactly the same as standard bush zucchini or the ones you see in the supermarket. Maybe it is lost now, and I didn't end up with any trailing varieties this year, but will try something next year.

Yes, it makes a huge plant but doesn't make quite as much zucchini as the hybrids. Flavor and texture are better. We had plenty of blossoms for recipes. I'm growing it again this year.

Any updates on this thread? Any success stories on vining zucchini? I too have been searching the internet for a summer squash that will grow up!
Thanks. |

Heyni, ALittleSalt grew out the last Gialle Nostrale seeds I had - if you ask nicely, he might share with you
I'm still interested in vining summer squashes... I think I've come across some Anatolian types and there is one from the UK, trailing marrow... Next for me maybe...

I grew a variety called Black Forest a few years ago which was quite definitely a vining one. It was a hybrid though and the seeds were very expensive, but it would seem it is what you are looking for. I got the seeds in the UK where it is called Black Forest Courgette if anyone wants to look it up.. oh and there is a winter squash with the same name but it was the courgette I grew.

I'm also looking for a vining zucchini if anyone has a few seeds to share, I found some Table Dainty (marrow) but haven't been able to find anything else. As far as a trade goes I have quite a few bean varieties and a nice Croatian lettuce to share.

Annette, my seeds are en route from the UK. I got the green ones, Black Forest from Plants of Distinction in the UK and the yellow one Shooting Star from a company who sells on e bay UK. I don't remember how many seeds there were in the yellow ones but the green ones were only 8 seeds to a packet and I have already shared with someone, if you look those sellers up you may be able to get them shipped over, if they are out of stock send me your address of I can I may be able to send you a couple.. I will let you know for sure when they get here and I know just how many I have.
I will go and find the name of the e bay seller for you. I just checked and both sellers still have stock. The e bay number is 371556257362 and the company name is Premier Seeds Direct, this is for the Shooting Star yellow one Plants of Distinction have the green one Black Forest.(not on e bay) Last edited by Jeannine Anne; April 18, 2016 at 10:06 PM. |
