First watermelon to germinate and it is a Bradford! I may try hand pollinating, bagging blossoms, and saving seeds when things progress later in the season.

Yeah, I read that earlier in this thread. That stinks! I might do some hand pollinating and bagging of blossoms. If it works out you are welcome to have some seeds heirloomtomaguy.

Yay! Good on you. I'm still waiting for mine to sprout. Christa can you explain how to do hand pollinating with watermelon? (I'm growing other melons as well as cucumber.)

Well.....I usually just pull off 3 or 4 male flowers and rub them all over the inside of a female flower but because this time I am wanting to make sure that a Bradford female flower only receives pollen from Bradford male flowers, I am going to have to research the correct way of doing it. I suppose that I would need to find a female flower that hasn't opened yet, open it up, pollinate it, then bag the blossom. If anybody has any suggestions, feel free to let me know.

Did you ever harvest Bradford watermelon? I saw the seed on their distributor's website and was wondering if the melon lived up to its marketing.
