If you aren't a fan of wax ones because well, they kind of have about that much flavor... Goldrush is an excellent newer variety. I am not picky I don't think, and even I will eat these. they are fabulous.

Father's Daughter, thanks, that was exactly the info that I needed and I will plant them closer together!


Worth, I LOVE 3-bean salad and often take it to potlucks (hoping there will be some left over so that I can bring it home) .

Once you go pole, you never go back.



Well, rarely, because you'll continually search for a bush variety that is equal in flavor to the finest pole varieties.


It's like comparing F1 beefsteaks to your favorite heirloom beefsteaks.



At some point you stop deluding yourself that you'll ever find that bush bean or F1 beefsteak. But, the hunt is fun.

Yep.

That salad looks great, Worth! Y'all make me want to devote a little space to some pole beans, which I have never tried. By the way, how many plants you need depends on how many beans you like to eat. I love fresh green beans, only usually have one veggie with a meal and like to have a nice pile of those fresh beans. Id you have the room, I would do more than 6 plants. Of coarse take that with a grain of salt, since I hve not included beans in my garden in several years, and many people would find 5 or 6 beans an adequate serving.

Better Homes and Gardens pictuer it has to look good.

I also like to plant both green and yellow beans. We like the thin French filet beans so I plant 1/2 of a row of Haricots Vert and 1/2 of a row of Roquencourt which is a yellow french filet bean and it does not taste like a "wax" bean to me.

I only plant a row about 3" long because we only use it for fresh eating. We do not like either canned or frozen beans so this is plenty for the 2 of us. After about 3 weeks I plant another 3' row. I don't plant any for late season because the Mexican Bean Beetles arrive and they LOVE my beans and we have plenty of other vegetables to eat by then.
