Hi salix. I am going to just let them go and see what comes of them. Hopefully they produce. It will be interesting seeing what happens.

Sorry about the plant. Hope it is not your one and only of that variety. I have about 70 or so but some varieties I only have one of. This will be my first year with this many plants and hopefully will also be my first year canning tomatoes and making salsa

A pill bug or something similar might have chewed off
the growing tip. In that case, it should eventually grow
a side branch there somewhere. Could be a defective
mutation of some kind, too, though.

Hi newatthiskat. No it is not my one and only. I have probably at least 30 left in my tray after giving away several to family and friends. If you look at my pictures that I posted earlier, you can see. It is the tray on the left with the fewest plants. Good luck with making your tomato juice and salsa. Last year I canned 100 quarts of tomato juice. We like to drink it and also make chili and vegetable soup. It is alot of work though.

Hi dice. Maybe it will finally come on and grow. What is a pill bug? I have never heard of that, but I am always willing to learn more. Thanks for the info.

Just did a search on pill bug, so you don't have to answer if you don't want to. Thanks

Speaking of Mule Ears...

This Mule Team was buried in the middle of a jungle of young tomato plants, and I didn't notice anything was wrong until I pulled it out to plant it. I tossed it back with some other culls, and just tonight got around to doing something with them. I was surprised to see how well it had recovered.

You can still see the dead growing tip. I'm thinking I might put it in a container away from the garden and see what happens.

I have one that is kind of like that this.

I named it Quasimodo and now I can't bear to part with him. I keep hoping that some new growth will emerge somehow.

Perhaps I could do a graft from another plant?

Howard

I have trimmed mine back to just a small stalk. I shall see what happens. I will report back when I finally give up on it. Cheers everyone and happy growing season.

Update on the 2 mule ear plants. Nothing ever developed, even after trimming it back. I have finally given up and tossed them out. I have many other plants set out , so I hopefully will have plenty of tomatos this year for my juice making . Cheers everyone!! Have a happy growing season.

Me too... Quasimodo finally gave up the ghost. He had what looked like a little sister in the pot, turned out to be a maple tree! LOL

No worries, I ve got about 30 dwarf plants left to re-pot from 4 inch containers to 5 gallon containers this weekend. Life is good!

kytomaterjuice,
Would you mind sharing you juice recipe/technique? I know that's another thread but I need advise. I've canned, made salsa and put tomatoes in the freezer but I have never made just juice(sounds dumb) but my DH loves tomato juice and I buy it for him all the time. That stuff is expensive, I need to learn how to season and can it for him.

thanks,
neva

Yes I will share my recipe/technique with you and anyone else whom would like it. I will report back with the details in the proper thread and will also let you know where to find it. I will include a link so you won't have trouble finding it. I feel honored that you would want my recipe for tomato juice. Thanks
