I'd have to go with Black Krim. It's pretty early, fairly productive, and produces all season long, and tastes great.

or I would take Brandywine Sudduth x Cherokee Green F1 cross to get a wide range of segregation products (pink, red, black, green) down the line.

I would eschew tomatoes and plant trees and cotton. Then I would build a boat and sail around stealing tomatoes from the rest of you and some basil from that island way over there.

Well, actually, the first thing I would do is kill the velociraptors.

Haven't grown many tomatoes, just my second year. So far, Black Cherry is my pick. Indestructible, high yields, tasty big cherries.

Based on this past year, I would want something that gave me lots of toms. So, my choice would be (from my 2009 growing list) Sibirskiy Skorospelyi. Just lots of 4-6 oz toms with good taste and very little disease. I have three others that were equally as good, but this one was the earliest and just kept on producing. It was the last one to go down as cold weather set in.

I'll go with Black Cherry. It gave me tons of large cherry maters from early in the season until frost. Plus if you remember, I sliced several of them up for BLT's when I was craving one and my big maters weren't ready.

Say, is this a tropical desert island? One where tomatoes could be grown year round? I'm thinking if you guys timed it right, I could do my pirate raids without worrying about timing. And the basil would grow monstrous large.

Default desert or desserted or desserted desert island?

It would be tough to find a tropical desert island as these two terms are climatic 'opposites'. However you could find a deserted tropical island like Giligan and the Skipper.

Oh yeah, I'm like totally pillaging and plundering your island.

Momotaro.
Not the best taste, not the best producer, but very good taste, firm texture and reliable producer. The best multipurpose tomato in my garden so far. Very good disease resistance.

I think Folks are getting desert Island and deserted island mixed up.
I’m looking at it as “deserted island” thusly it has plants and wildlife but no people which brings forth the reason for my choice.
And the choice would be Kellogg’s Breakfast, I just love this tomato but it does not produce well for me.
If I lived on an island with a perfect growing climate then I would not have the problem of productivity.
Secondly I would need a tomato that would attract a mate or many mates.
To this day I have not seen a tomato that attracts the attention of women more than a big juicy Kellogg’s Breakfast.
They just seem to fall over when they see them in my garden.
I can see it all now.
I have a nice 4.000 square foot two story grass hut with a big tomato patch all around the place.
In amongst the tomato patch there would be pit falls for would be ship wrecked tomato thieves to fall in.
Once they were caught I would simply separate some of the men from the women. Toss the remaining men into the volcano or feed them to my pet tigers.
Yes I would have pet tigers and a volcano; you can’t have an island without these two things.
The remaining men and women would be kept as garden slaves under the watchful eye of the tigers.
The men and women would have offspring which would be taken away from the parents and raised by the more so called agreeable women.
These children would be raised with the belief that I was their one and only Living God and would obey my every command.
In time the colony would grow and it would become a tribe that would soon take over neighboring islands that the rest of you folks would be living on.
One day you would be standing in your tomato patch overlooking the sea and would see an enormous fleet of ships in the bay.
From these ships would be launched hundreds of out rigger sailing canoes loaded with thousands of pet tigers and warriors with sharpened tomato stakes.
They would over run the island take over the gardens and the remaining survivors (if any)would be put back to work in what used to be their tomato patch but which would now be mine.
In about 500 years the Federation of Tomato Growing Islands (FOTGI) would be ready to take over the world one continent at a time all because I made the right choice of tomato.
Yes I'm Back
