Never tried the milk spray before. I'll give it a try this year.
Once you get powder mildew you can usually control it by spraying with a mild solution of bleach. Using regular household bleach make a 6% solution with water and add a few drops of soap. Make sure to spray very early in the morning or late in the day making sure to get the undersides of the leaves. I have found this works on squash too. If you get good coverage the infected leaves will tend to dry up while the new uninfected leaves will continue to grow. This is kind of a Custer's last stand against mildew. If you make the solution too weak it won't work and if you make it too strong it will kill your plants. I have found any solution over 7% can cause significant plant damage. If you spray during the middle of the day you can also increase damage. If you get desperate, try it. I find that I usually get desperate at least once during the growing season and have used this on tomatoes, peppers, onions, squash and cucumbers in the past with some success. |

I am growing Poinsett 76, Suyo Long , Muncher, Spacemaster Bush and
Garden Sweet Hybrid. Will have to try Diva next year since it's almost on everyone's list. |

My source for Diva is Johnny's seeds. As for lemon, I wasnt all that fond of it but I actually have 3 plants growing in a 5 gallon container. Only had a few seeds left and tossed them in the mix for the hell of it. I have a tomato cage in the bucket for them to climb. Thought I would make some oddball pickles with them for fun

Harvested my first Cool Breeze today along with 4 Poona Kheera. Made a quart of refrigerator pickles with them. Should be interesting

What is the receipe for refrigerator pickles? I'm growing National Pickling, Armenian, Sumter. Looked for Diva seeds at the garden shops no luck. Thanks for the tip on fish milk for powdery mildew. George |

Hi Guys,
I am going to try to grow cucumbers in my last vacant EarthTainer this year. DIVA seems to be the consensus variety on this Thread. As I've never grown cukes before, can they be trained to grow up the dual tomato cages in the 'Tainers - - or will they vine all over and sprawl on the ground. Also, do you put multiple plants per cage, or a single plant per cage like tomatoes? thanks, Raybo |

I am looking for a variety that can be used for both slicing, and making bread and butter pickles (I like fat slices in pickles). As I have two cages in the 'Tainer, I suppose I could grow one for each purpose. What do you guys recommend?

What I did was to also use a trellis net in a shape of a W with the center being the SWC and the Right and Left Wings supported by Bamboo Stakes. Cukes want to apread beyond the tomato cage. George |
