I've been extremely, extremely impressed with the flavor of Green Giant. I've only tasted 20 or 30 heirloom varieties but it might be my new #1

TomatoDon, i concur with your prediction.

Oh...yes...Once you start eating them you may be back here with your revised plans for 20!

Let's see now....Red, Pink, Yellow, Green, Dark (black, purple), Cherry, Grape, Plum, Roma, and more....and then of course a few varieties of each!

ha ha ha ha ha. Isn't there a 50-plant minimum required for entry here? That's per person.

Who will eat them? Everyone you know, plus anyone you run into during the day.

For a second cherry:
Have you tried Black Cherry? If not, try it!
I'm not really a fan of SunGold F1 myself, neither are my family (it's a good tomato, just not a must-grow for me).
Here we all agree that Green Doctor's Frosted is the best tasting cherry in the garden this year, along with Black Cherry.
Both are larger than SunGold F1, and both have much better flavor.

I grow some sexy tomatoes, but we have a few youngsters who are avid gardeners who read this forum. You might give them ideas with that animated pic. Just throwing in my 2c.

Talon, go with Big Beef over Paul Robeson. Big Beef is usually a terrific producer and very disease resistant and it is a very tasty hybrid. Paul Robeson is one of my favorite eating tomatoes when I can get one to grow and make tomatoes. Paul Robeson is also a very late producer which could be a problem up north if not started early. Last year it was my very last plant to set and ripen fruit. This years late one was KBX my Paul Robeson didn't live.

Next year: Golden Gem, Paw Paw, Serendity, Cherokee Yellow, Brad's Black Heart, Sweet Carneros Pink, Cherokee Purple (it's inevitable), ATKINSON, Black Krim, maybe Tony's Italian. Will be trying an intensive method using squash plants to provide cover between the 'maters.

There's no such thing as "having too many tomatoes to eat." Remember: tomatoes are also your way of making friends and influencing people at work, church, school, wherever you need to curry favor. Show up with a bag and let the good karma accrue.

And if you run out of friends (unlikely: you're giving away tomatoes!), you make sauce the way Suze does (in giant roasting pans in the oven) and freeze it all for later.
