I have over 20 takers. That is it for the pepper offer. I will try to get the peppers out to everyone later this week.
I hope everyone likes them, but what I am interested in in return are comments to this thread on the peppers. Please let everyone know how you grew them, when you harvested, how you cooked them. Anything that might be of interest. |

Fred, Do either of these peppers require an extremely long
Growing season as compared to Jalapenos or maybe even Habaneros. |

They are not as slow as Habenero or Jalapenos, but with our long growing season, I am not focused on how long they take to produce.
Additionally, the immature peppers are excellent "frying peppers" that can substitute for Padron or Friggitello. Some of the restaurants who used to buy Padron from us now use Mareko Fana. Of course the harvest of frying peppers starts much earlier. I am now starting to catch on to the SASE thing, and I would like to request that everyone who requested the peppers send a SASE to Baia Nicchia Farm and Nursery P.O. Box 428 Sunol, CA 94586 Make sure you include a note telling me that you want the peppers. Last edited by Fred Hempel; December 24, 2010 at 10:36 AM. |

One other note: The pepper we are distributing is not the same as the Mareko Fana offered by Reimer seeds.
Indeed, the population of Mareko Fana we grew was also not uniform genetically, and the variety available at Reimer seeds looks like a variant that was within the seed we obtained. While we are making a standard long, brown Mareko Fana available, we are also in the process of selecting a number of additional true-breeding lines that capture much of the diversity of the seed we obtained from Ethiopia. We may make these lines available too, at some point. The first thing we will do, however, is make them available to Ethiopian agronomists and farmers for evaluation there. |
