Carbon was first for me. I have two about the size of golf balls now.

Next was Black Cherry, followed by Sungold. There are three or four others that have set fruit but the varieties escape me now.

This is all assuming I have any plants left after last night's storms.

Cowlick Brandywine-(R.L.) was the first and is between golfball and tennisball size.
Somewhat smaller are: Black Brandywine, Liz Birt, Barlow Jap, Tarasenko6, and the original Cowlicks Brandywine (P.L.)
I'm sure the others will be setting soon as all are loaded with flowers.

That was quite a storm. The cooler temperature sure does feel good after a week near 90 degrees.

Chuck's Yellow was the first plant to set fruit for us this year. Everybody has open flowers and most have baby tomatoes on them now. We have 14 tomato plants in the garden.

I had shoulder surgery on Monday so I haven't been able to go out and ogle over the garden all week. I went out today and there has been massive growth and tons of flowers, but no ripe tomatoes yet. The cherry tomatoes have lots of flowers and the full size tomato plants have their fair share of flowers too. I noticed a few dropped blossoms on Brandywine and Aunt Gertie's Gold. I suppose that's to be expected, and it was only a few blossoms out of tons of flowers.

Good luck with your tomatoes this year,

Irv

Glad to hear your tomatoes are producing lots of blossoms and tomatoes. If you are anything like me, it would be very difficult to stay out of the garden for one whole week. That would seem like forever.

I hope your shoulder is healing well, and without too much pain. Have a nice summer and enjoy your tomato harvest.

Mark,

Thank you for the well wishes. The shoulder is healing quickly and I am glad I can get back to tending the garden. Just can't wait to see some blushing. I think first blush is still a few weeks away for me.

Same on the blushes with me, too Irv. My biggest fruit set (in size and quantity) is sungold. But I've also got Chocolate Cherry, Super Sweet 100, Green Zebra, and 4th of July. Woohoo!

Not counting my cherry tomatoes, Ludmilla's Pink Heart was my first fruit set and was leading the way in total numbers until Sweet Carneros Pink came out with a vengeance to pass them, but they are about tied right now. The only plant I have with nothing yet is Aunt Gertie's Gold. My first two to blush just happened today and those are Sungold!

Got off to an unpleasant start with early spring storms wiping out my Amazon Chocolates and some of the recommended varieties that my person was eager to try(Hege, Barlow Jap, SOTW, Sandul, Earl's Faux and DDR). Re-started some of these in hopes of some fall production(hope they can stand up to the Memphis heat). As to those that remain here is the order of fruit set.

1) Gary'O Sena - 1st to bloom and set fruit. Loaded with blooms. Healthy. Impressed with this plant. Hope they are tasty as my person will get many from this one.

2) County Agent - 2nd to set fruit. Many blooms. Very large fruit so far.

3) Mystery Cherry?? - coming in right along with County Agent. This was supposed to be Amazon Chocolate as it came from that seed pack. The only other cherries i started were Black Cherry and Sungold and these are coming in red so i don't believe it was a mix-up on my person's part. Hopefully they are good as it is loaded with blooms and fruit. Plant is huge.

4) Brandywine(Cowlick's) - has nice bloom and fruit set. Impressed so far as i have never had much success with brandywines down here.

5) Top Sirloin(OP) - decent bloom and fruit set thus far.

6) Black Master - good amount of blooms and fruit.

7) Bear Creek - really looking forward to this one but so far it's lagging a little behind. Lots of blooms but just starting to set fruit.

8) Goose Creek - plenty of blooms but low fruit set. Plant rather on the compact side. Have read that this one is late so this is not unexpected.

9) Big Cheef(f6) - these were started late. Just starting to set blooms.

10) Black Cherry - same as above.

11) Spudatula - same as above but have yet to set blooms.

Without close inspection for bb's, of my earliest set outs (5/7) Sungold was first, then JD's Special C-Tex, then Grub's Mystery Green, then Jaune Flamme. Of the second set outs (5/13), Goose Creek was first followed by Flathead Monster. Lots of faded flowers out there, but no time yet for closer inspection.

Feel better soon, Irv!

Blk Vegan,

You have some nice looking plants and tomatoes. The tomato ouput on the Gary O Sena is amazing. I was going to plant one this year, but ran out of room. Gary O is definitely on the list for 2012.

Blk Vegan,

Are all the Goose Creek fruits the same shape as your pic? They're supposed to be globes. Last year I grew the red "version", this year trying the pink and the 2 fruits are definitely round as were all the ones last year.

Mark, i'm quite impressed with how my Gary'O plants are turning out as well. Hoping they live up to the taste test.

I had my first faux pas of the seson the other day with a Riesentraube. The top 3 feet of the main stem had fallen out of its cage and was lying on the ground. I was trying to weave it back into position and snapped the top foot off . Oh well, I have other chutes on that plant and another Riesentraube in the garden so it's not a disaster, just a letdown.

Chuck's Yellow is still ahead of all others. The biggest fruit is about baseball size in diameter but it's flattened; it looks more like a ribbed green hockey puck.

Kath, that is the only fruit to set thus far. I am curious to see if that one is just an anomaly as you are correct, they should be globes. Will know before too long. Only planted one of these so no way to know if i was sent the wrong seeds for this variety.
