it may be a while. i have only picked a few so far, they were eaten and not all that great. i have had 2 on the table for a long time and they just seem to be taking forever to ripen. the plant has a lot of fruits and as you saw some are huge but they just won't color up much less ripen. all varieties have been later than usual this year so BH is not an exception in that respect.

if you are interested i'll call you when the time comes. i have extra seed if you want some.

Just wondering Tom. Just made a killer cuke, tomato and pepper salad! Yum. Found out at my third garden my buddy has been picking my butternut! I was ready to bonk him on the noogan! He thought they were yellow squash! lol

Tom, btw did those Black Cherry's taste any better after sitting on the counter? I would think not. Many of the 43 varities will not make the cut for next season. I'd like to give BC another try but we'll see.

Aha: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Sisters_%28tomato%29

Not all fruit shapes on the same plant at the same time, so different
from Tom's plant with the one big beefsteak. I was wondering if it
could be the result of a somatic mutation that only affected that one
fruit.

whataya think?.....

right!

sucked!

i let them sit for about 4 or 5 days and they were as ripe as possible and they were as lousy as at your house. thankfully you were growing it and now i had another chance to taste it without wasting space in my garden again. jeesh, it's a lousy tasting tomato, well to me anyway.

Isn't it funny, I grew Duh Vinci's bull heart in 2010, and I thought they
were so good and sweet. I haven't tasted one better yet. I lost the
remaining seed I had. Maybe I can trade you for some.

pm me roper2008. this is not an open offer as i don't have many seeds.

yesterday i ate the best one yet. the skins were tough but i have noticed that on many tomatoes this year. i think it may be due to the upper 90's and 100+ temps we had for a while because prue doesn't have tough skins and this year it has on some but not all.

i liked it at first as it had a unique taste but when i got into the center it was less flavorful. so i'm still waiting for a good one that i expect as this was recommended by a tv'er who has turned me on to most of my top favorites and who now considers prue in his. we seem to have similar tastes in tomatoes this is why i expect BH to be great tho so far it has been less than good.

due to irene i went out and cleaned off all the plants today. i picked some massive BH today! the are averaging about 15-18 oz with a few small ones at 10-12 oz. but today i picked some huge fruits that must be 1.5 to 2 pounds, maybe 2.5 pounds. i have 12 on the table and i have still yet to get 1 that tasted great. big disappointment so far, tomatoes the size of a ice box watermelon isn't what i want. i may make sauce from these, 12 could make about a gallon!
