My list is close to final. I just need to decide between growing Andine Cornue and Levino. I grew Andine Cornue last year, but it wasn't a good growing season. I have never grown Levino, but have recently read many good things about this tomato. Decisions, decisions.

Yes, I do know you have Joe's PInk Oxheart b'c I record those seperately. When I put up the germination thread I might well ask if some folks would be willing to send me back some seeds of some varieties. Already it's become clear that I probably won't have enough seeds to satisfy any SSE requests that come in and the YEarbook will be here soon, so we shall see. Any help with seeds back would be greatly appreciated so that I don't overburden Lee and Shoe and Neil with yet more growouts for seed production. But let's wait for that germination thread.

Mark0820,
I’m not familiar with Andine Cornue so cannot comment, but I grew Levino last season, which was a pretty decent year in S.E. Iowa. Levino was my biggest disappointment in the garden. With that said; the SSE Yearbook is loaded with kudos on Levino. For me in Zone 5 in 2011 I cannot say enough great things about County Agent. I liked all aspects, especially yield. This is not to say we’re comparing apples-apples, because Levino is supposedly a much larger tomato than the 8-10 oz. County Agent. I can also add Greek Domata as another fine 8-10 oz., with just a bit less in the taste dept. (for me). So that is .02 cents worth of probably not much help, Randy

Last year was the first year I grew Andine Cornue, and thought it had a really good flavor for a paste tomato. Production wasn't great because we had lots of rain followed by excess heat, so all of my paste tomatoes dropped more blossoms than they developed. Once the weather calmed down a bit (around August), we experienced one of the worst cases of BER I have seen. I have had my eye on Greek Domata for several years, so it is good to hear your experience with it. I don't believe I have ever heard of County Agent. |

Thanks to Carolyn's seed offers (and book) and all of the knowledge and information at Tomatoville (and tatiana's tomatobase), I have found a lot of new varieties to try (and they taste good too). |

Advice on the italics...
I came across this thread and thought I might paste in what I'm thinking for this year. I've categorized roughly below -- the italics represent varieties I'm not sure about. Should I grow or no? I could use the advice of those who've tried these to help cull out the winners. I have roughly 25 additional slots for these candidates. I've placed a * next to those candidates that I'm most heavily eying. Of course, those without italics are already accepted initiates. I'd normally lean towards growing out more of the same good varieties, but this year marks a new home, new backyard, new grow space to evaluate, so I want to come at this with a fresh set of eyes -- see what works here.
Appreciate your thoughts... -naysen Paste

I can't help but see that you've got Earl's Faux in italics. Kindly remove them. Seriously, I'm also down between Super Choice and Aunt Lou's Underground. I grew SC last year, and the plant was huge, showed impressive resistance to early blight, and produced a pretty high yield of large, almost flawless beefsteaks. The drawbacks is that it was the latest of the varieties I grew, and the flavor was a tad on the mild side. I do plan on trying KY Cabin (a freebie from Blueribbon?) this year. I haven't seen many comments about it, so if you do end up growing it, I'd be interested in exchanging notes. I'm also trying Hege German Pink and Absinthe this year, and I've heard lots of good things about those two. |
