Willyb,
That would be great. I currently grow under a hoophouse and have been thinking of making something a bit more substantial. Thank you I would guess that there might be quite a few others who would be interested as well.

I would like to see the plans as well! My current plastic greenhouse has been at it's life's end for a couple of years now. I'm always amazed when it makes it through another winter without collapsing. I go inside after a snowfall and use an industrial type broom to push up on the sagging plastic and bounce the snow off. One of these times I'll probably be buried under an avalanche. Past time for a new structure, but once I'm through the seedling stage I don't use it, so keep putting off plans for a new one for one more year.

Thanks, Brad! The drawings and instructions are very clear. Now I'll just go and study them some more. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Looks like ordinary wood. How will you keep it from rotting?

Great plans and wonderful idea for the trusses. I hope to do some experimenting with your idea this summer.

Thank you for sharing your design. What kind of winds/snow do you get up there?

Winds - I am in an urban area with lots of buildings and trees around that buffer the wind. Get the odd gust to 30 - 40 MPH. My experience with this design years ago that it spills the wind well, and yields as it will flex. Needs to be anchored well to the ground.
Snow - Our snow load is light in recent years. (2 feet or so) Snow is mostly dry and will shed from this structure. I'm not sure about a heavy, wet spring snow and would remove it if it sticks. As to the question from Ronnwil about rot. It is ordinary wood and it will rot. I have treated the wood with a salt brine and will put an impervious barrier under the base. Hope to get 8-10 years out of it. More durable wood such as western red cedar and redwood are cost prohibitave away from the coast in Canada. I am anal about treated woods. |
