Matt,
Now I am VERY confused!! Did you follow the instructions at my EarthTainer Guide at this link? http://earthtainer.tomatofest.com/pd...tion-Guide.pdf Or, did you use the construction design from the other 37 page Guide you now reference? If so, the wicking basket is far too large, as well as other construction problems that I can see from a first glance. Raybo |

The instructions I used were not yours. I was mistaken until earlier this evening.
When I was looking I into container gardening I came across the Earthbox kits that are sold. Being a little DIY and wanting to save a buck, I looked for instructions for making something similar. That's when I found then instructions I linked as well as the instructions you created. What made up my mind to try this type of container was a photo of you with your containers. When I found this forum (a while after I had made my containers), I recognized your photo from some instructions I had read and assumed (in error) that those were the ones I followed. The instructions I followed were from link I gave. The wicking baskets in my first containers are approximately 6"x6" square. The new ones I've made use a 4" net pot from a hydroponics shop. For the containers I nested a 14 gallon tote inside an 18 gallon tote giving me a 4 gallon reserve of water plus another 2 from the shoulder height from nesting the totes. Again, I apologize for the confusion. I didn't realize the instructions I followed were not yours until I went back to them to answer your reply asking how much dolomite I added to the containers. |

Matt,
Thanks for the clarification. The title "EarthTainer" threw me off for a while. If you decide to build more 18 gallon SWCs, you may want to review my InnTainer Guide. http://earthtainer.tomatofest.com/pd...tion-Guide.pdf For outdoors use, simply eliminate the steps for the water level sensor tube, and instead drill an overflow hole about 3-3/4" up from the bottom. Have fun! Raybo |
