Never from the fridge. I prefer them between 78 and 90 degress. Seventy-eight is our room temp and 90 is about as warm as it can be when eating on the patio without my sweating detracting from the experience.

At whatever temp I have a ripe tomato in one hand and a knife in the other!
Oh and the knife is optional... George, a little sweat functions as a great salt substitute. |

I love them 1st fresh off the vine so now that I'm in the south that would be around 85-90 degrees, but should any make it to the inside of the house, that would 76-79 degrees.

The best tomato I've had all year was an Omar's Lebaneese that a bird had gotten ahold of. I picked it in the late afternoon when it was still close to 90 degrees, and planned to take it inside to add it to the salsa in the fridge.
After looking at it for a few seconds, I motored through that sucker right there in the garden. Granted, it might have been a hold over from when my Dad and I would walk out to the garden, salt shaker in hand, and eat ripe tomatoes like apples. But that was one good tomato. |

Still warm from the sun! Standing in the garden, juice dripping down my chin...
I ate my first ever Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye today, and it was heaven! I'm not jaded yet, the fruits are still just trickling in, but the floodgates will open in a few short weeks! |

I love them warm from the sun too, just like watermelons. Delicious.

How do you keep it so cold inside?
Quote:
I can't even imagine an a/c here in south tx that could make any house that cold. My understanding of a/c is that the max you will get out of it would be about 15 to 20 degrees cooler than outside but that is really pushing it here. They say if you are lucky to get 15 degrees cooler then you should be happy with it. I can't even imagine the cooling costs to keep things that cold, especially at night. Wow.

we keep our house at 60 in the winter
We have contests in the winter to see how cold we can stand to keep the house. Usually we set the thermostat to 62. That's how cheap we are. Hehehe. I sometimes walk around the house with mittens and a ski hat on, just because I want to save money on oil. I know that's really lame. I probably shouldnt be admitting this hehehe.

There are other factors too such as insulation and attic vents. I'm working on more ways to bring the cost even lower. I have a huge over sized unit and my total utility bill water trash and electricity is about 150 a month. Tthis is in a 1200 square foot house. Worth |

I hope you are growing cold crops inside, lol. I plan to try some in the house I am moving to because I would like to have fresh lettuce, kale and spinach, maybe even some chard in the dead of summer, lol. If only I could get things that cheap, water and trash is 67.00 just base, that doesn't include the sewer and I won't know what that will be until I get my first bill.
