Julia, your tomatoes look awesome. I may be moving to Philly in a few months depending on my job situation. I may have to ask you for some PA gardening tips!

There is some thin plastic screening, that has about a half in. openings. Comes in 3x50 foot rolls for under $10. Black in color. easy to lay over and around your plants while they are sporting ripe fruit. Birds don't like it one bit.
We had our first black tomato today. Unique and the flavor was intense. I didn't know how to tell the tomato was ripe so I went by the firmness. When no longer hard, I considered it ripe and so it was. Medium size well shaped fruit that was free of any blemishes.

I found the avatar on the web, Julia.
Nαι, Μιλάς Ελληνικά? (Yes (regarding tomatoes), do you speak Greek?) Actually my name is Ἰωάννης (John), I go by jacksson because my father's name was Jack. |

Your tomatoes look great as always. Keep up the great work!
I'm so envious as I have yet to pick a red beefsteak yet....just started with the Amy's Sugar Gem(golf ball size) a few days ago and my daughter picked a Wild Fred last week that was definitely a few days early but she was eager for a slice. I have an Omar that will be ready in just a few days. Once it hits, the floodgates will open. My Mr Mark Bagby is loaded but none are blushing yet. Grew Ashlock last year and the plant seemed to attract all the bugs in the garden to it. Didn't put it back on the grow list. Keep the photos coming!

Hi, They have the typical acidy taste to them with just a slight hint of sweet. A really good slicer. Julia

Ask away!! If you move I think you'll like it here in eastern PA. I had relatives that have passed on that lived in Kitsap County in Port Orchard WA. I visited there often from 2001 through 2006 when I lived in Helena Montana. I think you'll find a somewhat similar growing climate here as you do in the Seattle area to the exception of a bit more sunshine, higher humidity and dew points.

Jacksson, I love your avatar too, but it could easily say "Italian" lol...
