I will be growing for size next season, but not for size only. I have over the last two seasons come up with Brandywine, Soldacki and Zogola as winners in size and TASTE. That being said, there was the joy of growing a 4.5 pound Delicious, but, it wasn't worth the effort really, and I wont do it again, I have done it and will move on.
I love looking at a biggy growing on a plant that I know will give me a yummy result. Not just a big lump of tasteless tomato flesh.
BTW Faux Box Car Willie, whatever it is, is a bloody ripper as well. BBIIGG and yummy.

Hello all. Size is not the only thing that counts but sometimes it is. That sometimes is when you are in a giant tomato contest. As you get older your taste buds will deteriorate and you might find giant tomatoes to be just as tasty as the rest. Some of the giant tomato growers are guys who outgrew growing giant pumpkins. Just could not lift them up anymore, too heavy. Some people grow tomatoes to get the earliest ripe tomato. Some grow for taste. Some grow for size. All are growing tomatoes and just because you grow for size does not exclude you from trying to also get the earliest tomato and the tastiest tomato. I want it all. Hello also to Mark who has probably already had greetings enough.

I guess you could say I grow for several reasons. My primarily reason is taste.

My other reasons are:

1) To see if I can find a variety that tastes better than my top 10.

2) To see what all the fuss is about when a “new” variety is grown by a large percentage of forum members.

3) I will grow a small number of varieties that I think taste OK if they are early ones. (It's tough waiting for that first home grown ‘mater)

Now if a rally tasty variety gives me a one-slice-fits-the-bread tomato all the better. After all the BLTs seem to hold up better if the tomato is nice and even.

PS. And no, you are not the only one here who knows that Mark Feron is one of many aliases. And yes, I said I would never post in one of his threads at ??? and I didn’t. But this is a new time and a new place and hopefully a new beginning.
