Thanks all for the info about eggs and chickens. So then what do I buy for cruelty-free AND best tasting?

Depends how many is in your family and how many eggs you guys eat a day. Probably 5 hens and a rooster. hint hint Growing your own is the only way to be absolutely sure. hint hint Just like growing your own tomatoes.

I'm not zoned for it. But there's some new talk about zoning for two chickens but no rooster for my area.

Well in that case I guess you need to find a local farmer will to show you how he raises his chickens. Maybe at the local farmers market you can find one? Or do the food police allow local eggs at the farmers market where you live?
