I know the search function here can sometimes be a pain, but last year there was a thread that asked for non-sweet varieties for someone from India as they don't like sweet varieties. If you can find that thread, maybe you will get some more suggestions.

I grew Virginia Sweets last year and found them to be more rich and full flavored, despite the name. Not what I would consider tart, but definitely not what I'd consider sweet. But as many have said, everyone "tastes" things differently. This year I'm trying Aunt Gertie's Gold.

I have a new seed this year that is being advertised as strong acid flavor and large.
Claude Brown's Yellow Giant Here's a monster. Claude Brown grew and improved this tomato for decades in Pike county, Ky. Not only huge, but productive too. It has an acidic flavor like a red tomato. Maybe some one here who has experience with this variety and attest to it's acid flavor? I bought mine from Blue Ribbon Tomatoes on Ebay. |

Carol, thank's for the links. Along with specific varieties, including blacks and striped tomatoes should fill the request.
Alfredo, I'm not sure if you have the real Aunt Gertie's Gold. It is a very tart tomato in my garden, with just a hint of a sweet aftertaste. The fruit shape is usually very rough and it's also usually covered in stitching. (think a baseball run over by a car and then peed on by a dog) (and the above would be looks, not taste) Dr. Lve Apple |

Djena Lee's Golden Girl is not necessarily large (unless you are
DeerPark, apparently), more baseball sized, but the flavor has a definite bite to it. True "old time flavor".

Hey...as long as some of the varieties some of the fellow tomato villains have suggested have helped with what you're looking for, that's all that really matters for this thread anyway. ~Alfredo Last edited by Alfredo; March 1, 2013 at 07:46 PM. |
