I prefer a tart tomato but I had some neighbors who liked the sweet ones, so I grew some for them. Their favorites were Mr. Stripey and Granny Cantrell's German Red. German Queen is another very sweet tomato, at least when I have grown them.

i tried mr stripey last season and was not a fan. i would try something like virginia sweets if i was looking at a bi color. mr stripey came on very late compared to cherokee purple, a large pink (unknown variety-seed mix up), and dixiewine which were all grown to 2 stems in containers. productivity was also lowest of the 4

Yeah Bonnie's (the national nursery that supplies Lowe's, Wallyworld, and Home Depot with all their plants, some of which are even disease-free ) has Sungold, Sunsugar, and Black Cherry this year. I was surprised.
I only bought them because I checked 4 local nurseries and their selection was pretty sad.

Sunsugar is pretty sweet. I actually liked it better than Sungold,
but I have only grown each 1 time, in different years, so different weather. The sweetest tomatoes I ever tasted were both F2s of crosses, one Stupice x unknown and one Dice's Mystery Black x Chernomor RL. (Dice's Mystery Black is pretty sweet. So is Margaret Curtain, and Russian Red is a sweet-fruited dwarf type plant.) http://www.koanga.org.nz/index.php/s...t-curtain.html
