So you let the part above 5 ft run over the top and back down to the ground?

That's what I always did.

yes it's a mess but it works. they usually bend and just slowly go down and as they grow the ends go up. it makes for a more difficult time picking but i get a lot of tomatoes vs cutting the vines at say 6'. for sun gold it's ok for a large beefsteak the extra weight may not work as well.

A 150ft roll of concrete wire mesh arrived this week with free delivery from the local concrete supply place. I made a couple of 8ft tall cages by rolling out 8ft then rerolling it the OPPOSITE way it came off the roll. It worked perfectly. Very solid cage.

I picked up a couple of things from Lowe's that I am going to try for staking them. The only one I hadn't read that anyone else had tried is a cedar board that is already sharpened on the one end. Everyone else would turn it the other way up and use it as a slat for a fence . I don't have a clue if it will work but it was only like $1.68 and 6ft. And Cedar.

If stakes are not enough to hold them up, I am going to try one guys trick of 2 T-posts and one cord strung through the tops.

With all that being said, I am actually making most of them 5 ft tall and only adding a 3 foot tall ring with zip ties later on to the ones that need it.

Thanks for all of your help.

Mark
