Jaune Flammee was a hit at the Farmer's Market last year. I didn't grow them this year as they attract rug rats.

You mean house apes.

I like JF one of my favorites maybe it is the fact I dont keep my beds soaked and the heat.
I got my original seeds from a tomato suze gave me.
It was the real thing.

I liked the first two that I tried. Can't say I was blown away, but I'm waiting for more to ripen. For at this point, Azoychka isn't doing it for me. I'm finding it a bit too soft and not the taste I was expecting.. Fairly mild, so I'll wait and see. Amys Apricot is another one that I don't think will be back next year. Still love Sun Sugar and Black Cherry.

I'd like to join the "Don't like Jaune Flamme" club. Seeds from an 'approved' vendor, have tried at least 4 times, no matter what the type of season or degree of ripeness; at the very best it was just "meh", and at the worst - a spitter.

ChristinaJo, I'm guessing it's Blondekopfchen that is great for drying. Great idea! I have a dehydrator and those cherry toms are so easy to cut in half and dry.

Linda
Try soaking in balsamic vinegar and then drying.

Juane Flame is wonderful sun dried. Try them other ways and you may like them.

Funny, I've grown Jaune Flamme from two different reliable seed sources and I didn't care for the flavor at all. To me it tastes very tart, almost insipid. My sister grew plants from the same seeds and she thought it was very tasty. My niece grows for a farmer's market using my saved seed and it is her most popular heirloom - people love it.

I wonder if there is a specific flavor in Jaune Flamee that some people are genetically programmed to perceive? Kind of like the soapy taste that some people perceive in cilantro. (proven to be an inherited perception).

I LOVE Jaune Flamme! They aren't that sweet, but they have such a nice rich taste for me! I like to wait until they are kind of the color of a taxi. They are my nine-year old son's favorite. Fortunately they are ripening in significant numbers now...

I agree about Blondkopfchen. I did not like the sour taste at all. They never got any sweetness at all.

I think it should be fully ripe when eaten, then it adds some sweetness to the tangy taste. I find it delightful and very strong flavored.

Linda thank you for this thread. We do not have lucky enough to have the right Jaune Flammée. Maybe over the years,a bumblebee flew around non packed flowers and we have those 20% of the hybrids. It's sad, but we have to live without the excellent Jaune Flammée.

Actually, Jaune Flamme has the Beta gene, not tangerine - so it's mostly beta-carotene you're getting instead of much lycopene with this one.

Mine were delicious here, even in the worst ever cold wet terrible year.... but then again, there wasn't much to compare them to! I do intend to grow them again.

Tomato tasters drop into one of 4 buckets. There are people who want a sweet tomato, others want a rich acidic tomato, some want a balanced tomato just right sweet with rich flavor, and then there are lemon suckers. Lemon suckers you say? Yep, lemon suckers. People who love to suck on raw lemon are looking for a tart acid flavor that most tomatoes lack. I direct them to Jaune Flamme and Green Zebra. My oldest daughter is a lemon sucker. From childhood, I had to hide lemons from her to keep her from eating them.

What about someof us who drop into all four of your buckets? I know I'm not a one bucket person, never have been and never will. I like taste variety/

As to lemon suckers, I maybe have a split tongue since I do not like the taste of Green Zebra, and have told Tom that, and the other side of my tongue says it does like Juane Flammee.

I think I reported my disappointment with JF a couple of years ago. I like acidic tomatoes, but JF was too sour for my taste two years in a row.
