rw....got it! You cut off the bottom of the pellet and re-use for other seeds later. A thrifty person.....nice.

When starting tomatoes, do you use the regular Jiffy pellets or the "tomato"sized pellets?

I usually use the small Jiffy Pellet, the refills come in a box of 36 at Home Depot. but I have ordered some that were a bit larger which I liked. I don't use the ones that you can buy in the big box stores that are a lot bigger. they take up too much space.

I have used the pellets in the past. I plant three seeds per pellet. I cull the two weakest seedlings and when true leaves form I snip off the fabric and plant directly in a 16 oz paper cup filled with Fox Farm Ocean Forest. This has always worked well in the past.

This year I am sowing seed directly into 16 oz cups filled with Ocean Forest. I am trying to avoid the first transplant, which always seems to set the seedlings back for a week or so. The goal is to go directly from the paper cup to the garden

If you start several different varieties in the same tray, a few pellets each, make sure you label them very well. If not, you end up with a bunch of seedlings with no idea what they are.

NewCreature - I use the smaller ones for everything I plant early. I don't like the material around the larger pellets, but will probably use whichever ones I can find when these older ones are gone.
