I purposely use the least expensive fabric I can find.
I roll it out, pin it then cut my trench openings where I want to put my plants.

After planting I use cut grass and straw over the entire area in order to keep the area cool and also for moisture retention.

After the season is over with I simply pull up the fabric and toss it.

I've been doing this for the past four seasons with excellent results.
