Well this is sort of a long story but I have to explain it this way in order for you and others to get all of the information.

The first year I planted late and I was not able to be at home all of the time.
It was my first year growing hearts.
Saying this I had very poor luck with the tomatoes all the way around.
Some I didn't get anything from.
But the orange Russian did okay considering the circumstances.
These consisted of late planting being away from home and discovering my slow growth was due to a soil PH of around 8.
But the Orange Russian chugged along and put out a few fruit.
One morning I saw one of my beloved fruit on the driveway.
I was so ticked I just left it there.
That fall in November I saw a tomato plant growing in my dirt pile at the end of my driveway.
So I would park the truck over it to help protect it from the cold.
It made it through cold weather and continued to grow.
With no help from me what so ever.
The only water it got was from rain the ran down the drive and collected at the edge of the dirt pile.
At this time I had no idea what it was.
The position of the plant was in shade under a tree and the only sun it got was in the afternoon.
The plant was doing just as well as any of the other plants.
It loaded up with tomatoes but still yet I had no idea what it was.
All I knew was that it was a heart.
Again with very little help from me it turned into a huge plant and produced Orange Russian tomatoes.
When the heat kicked in it stopped producing but started again when it cooled off.
I might say it made quit a few tomatoes all year.
One might go as far as saying maybe 30 to 40.
Maybe less but it was a lot.
Here it is in I think July going up a 6 foot cage and back down again.

Haha excellent story! We have a relatively long growing season so as long as everything else behaves it should be good.

Just got back from a week vacation in the mountains, enjoying Colorado's beautiful fall colors. The following pictures were from picking just two plants and as I have told Marsha(Ginger2778), I enjoy slicing each one to see the varying color in each one. The largest one weighed almost 20 ounces. And if there is any interest, I have saved a bunch of seed from these. Or maybe I will send Tormato a bunch when he has his mystery swap.

BTW- I got 5 out of 5 seeds germinated from those George sent me. Thank you again, George, they are starting to get true leaves.

My favorite tomato also. At least I believe it is. The provenance of my tomato is a bit sketchy. I got the seeds from Roxy who used to work at the restaurant & she said she got them from an old man who used to live next door who called it "that Russian tomato"
The only thing I don't like about them is how attractive they are to critters. As soon as they start getting ripe they get eaten. Unfortunately not by me. I have to pick them right before they ripen & let them finish in the house or I don't get any. I've used several as fried green tomatoes of course, & I made some green tomato relish. I think I'm going to try green tomato salsa also.

These just might be the prettiest tomatoes I have ever seen. I am excited to grow these next season, thanks to Cole_Robbie.

Worth, that is one monster plant!

Here you go, and they are always very generous with their seed counts. Germination is excellent on their seeds too.
