I think I could grow joseph's free range butternut. That Tahitian monster at 30 lbs looks fun, but 110 DTM would be very iffy.

I'm working on an extra-large sister-line to my butternuts. My target for them is about 85 days to maturity.

Depends.... In a trial in Oregon, one plant produced around 270 pounds of squash, 9 fruits weighing about 30 pounds each. At my place I tend to crowd them, so I get about two thirty pound fruits per plant.

I have grown several varieties. a few years ago I grew one called Atlas from Stokes. they were HUGE like about 10# each and excellent in flavor and texture. I grew them again and had a total failure. too cold and wet for them that year. I didn't get any last year the squash bugs decimated them. This year I grew Waltham because the seeds were available and cheap and since I wasn't planning on getting much I had no expectations of them. I grew one row of them about 75' long and harvested quite a few of them in varying sizes from small to large. I actually sold a good many of them at my farmers markets. I kept a few for us and I baked one the other day and was very satisfied with the taste and texture of it. I warmed it up for supper tonight and thought it was even better. no complaints from me on the variety. I don't know what makes some better than others every year from the same plants.
