Yes I love you too darling Worth Meadow but, getting back to the op, I'm growing Sarah Black this year. Had just a few seeds someone sent and only one came up so I'm trying to be really careful with it.

http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/w...%27s_Galapagos It was Amy who named it Sara's Galapagos and that b'c Sara is her daughter's name. And while Tania said Amy's daughter went to the Galapagos with her, she didn't. When Amy and I were still in communication I drove down to her place in Duchess County, NY and visited many times. And I knew her daughter from the time Sara was probably maybe 5-6 years old. So I was absolutely stunned when there were pictures online showing the elegant gowns that were worn at a charity Ball in NYC and there was Sara in a gorgeous red gown, erect posture, even regal if you will. She goes by her father's name I met him his first name is Larry, but I forgot his last name. Larry and Amy were divorced and after many years she remarried to Cary Fowler and I still have the link of the marriage ceremony in Cental Park, NYCity. Carolyn

How lovely that you knew THE Sara, and that she wore her Galapagos-red ball gown to the Charity Ball and looked so regal. I suppose it's not her fault that her parents didn't know how to spell her name properly .
I intend to grow the tomato named in her honour this year, and I will think of her in her lovely dress when her prodigy fruits this summer . Linda |

Charley, I have being growing Sara for a few years now. It is earlier than most black varieties for me. Production is about 7-10 pounds from plant. It is darker than CP. Taste is similar. It will crack if overwatered or too much rain but will not change its taste. It is a great tomato to grow.

Why Not?

What if it's hardy and delicious and someone would love to grow a hardy, delicious tomato . . . even if it is called "Unknown Delicious" and lacks a pre-1992 SSE pedigree? |

Because, even if shared as an orphan, it may get passed around and then some one re-names it. It's a known tomato variety, the grower has simply not kept track of the name. So re-naming a variety can cause confusion and a mess later down the line. And it's not the best day for me, but this remark seemed a bit snotty or snarky to me- "even if it is called "Unknown Delicious" and lacks a pre-1992 SSE pedigree?". Hopefully I am mistaken and you did not mean to possibly sound snarky. |
