Last weekend I got everything prepped to plant out the tomatoes. Was hopping to get them in the ground on Monday but it rained all day and half the day Tuesday. Hope to start Thursday morning if it drys out more. I didn't realize how much space I was giving to tomatoes until I put the stakes out. I might have gone a little over board this year.
This is the main part of the garden as of last night. Here is what I call the field. Left of the compost is new this year. Right of the compost is going to be for the peppers. These are from this morning. Sunflowers that had volunteered in the main garden. I transplanted them to a more out of the way spot. Garlic One of the forgotten garlic a from last year. The stake cages are five feet. This garlic is getting huge! Plants that came from true garlic seed. Only two survived the winter. These are potato onions that are from seed on the left. The right is garlic from a trade. He found it in the woods growing on an old abandoned homestead about 15 years ago. He is calling it 'Reed's Indiana Homestead'. He sent bulbils so I am hoping to get decent rounds this year. And the walking onions today. -Zach

Zach's 2016 Garden
Thank you both. I'm glad I used the rocks and I'm not. They make it hard to weed the edges in both the path and the rows. Also we are hoping to move in the next year or two so I will need to pull them up and possibly put grass back in that area. I'm not sure if I would do it again. I miss the flexibility in where to plant stuff. I do like the nice grid and it makes it really easy to track where I plant what. I keep a map of it on grid paper and number each 3x3' section. Then when I track what I planted I can put yard 12 or yard 23. If I did do it again I would make them 4' or 5' wide instead of 3' and make the paths wide enough to get a mower down them. The big square section was a u shape too but I pulled the center up so I could plant corn there.

Planted 35 tomatoes this weekend. I still have 39 peppers to go. Also need to plant corn, beans, and melons. Some of the tomatoes were smaller than I wanted them to be but they will catch up. I may have gone a little over board this year.

We had a storm come through and just downpour on us. There was a lot of flash flooding and wind. I had one tomato that was under an inch of water. I lifted it and mounded it up once the rain calmed down. Also dug a small trench for drainage. I also had my only Amish Paste tomato get snapped at the base. I brought the top of the plant in and will try to root it like a lateral. I know it is a long shot but thought it was worth a try. They are calling for rain everyday for the rest of the week too. I hope it doesn't drowned them.

You have put a lot of work into your gardens and it sure shows. I like your layout and boy, your view is amazing. Your Amish Paste should root just fine.

Thank you. I have put a lot of work into it. Sometimes it seems like not enough though. I hope the Amish Paste roots. It was pretty beat up and had just started to wither when I put it in water. I have wanted to grow it for a few years now but never got the seeds until this year. -Zach

Here are a few pictures from today.
His is Mark Twain tomato. It was my last seed and had issues with gnats so I have had to baby it. It's now dealing with too much water from all the rain. It was the one I lifted and mounded yesterday. Here is the trench/ water hole next to it. It will probably need the water once summer hits. Here is the tomatoes I planted Saturday. They seem to be adjusting well. There is also the garlic that volunteered from last year next to them. More tomatoes. Front right is Summer Cider with Kellogg's Breakfast behind it. To left is Sungold F2 and then 2 Betimes Macbeth. Then in the back left is Jagodka and Homestead in front of it. Here are the two Betimes Macbeth plants closer. I hoping the back one doesn't out grow the mini cage. From what I can tell it is suppose to be a very small determinate. Here are a few more. The front plant is Speckled Roman. Then Abe Lincoln and the empty cage is where the Amish Paste was that got damaged. Tom's Landrace Paste mix are the three plants in the back left. This is the top of Amish Paste. I hope it can root. Garlic plants that came from true garlic seed. Another picture of the tomatoes planted on Saturday and the volunteered garlic. I'm still amazed at how vigorous of plants those garlics are. Here's the rest of the garlic yesterday. -Zach

Replanted several tomatoes today. Also lifted even more and mounded them. Hope I don't regret that come summer. I dug trenches for drainage too. I found a lot of root rot. The ones that were beyond coming back were the ones replanted.
I also saw that my garlic is starting to through out scapes. Now I just need to plant the peppers, ground cherries, corn, beans, kohlrabi and melons. -Zach

Here is the tomato I dug up and potted.
I also saw that I have a few little tomatoes on a micro dwarf that I'm growing in a pot. -Zach

Well I weeded all of the planted areas of the garden this morning. I just need to get a few more ready to plant. Here's a few pics for today.
