I have left seeds in Oxy Clean overnight, and they were fine.
If you're really concerned about your seeds carrying disease, a hot water bath with an immersion cooker is the way to go, regardless of whether you ferment or oxidize off the gel coat. |

but I like the sounds of 120 minute treatment with Oxy clean . I know this holds up production but ...it seems more of a sure effort if for some reason 45 minutes does not do it .

One part Clorox to four parts water (for example, 1 cup Clorox to 4 cups water), as described here:

So as Chlorox bleach is mainly sodium hypochlorite
and Oxi clean is mainly Sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate is a granular substance made by combining sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide. ........ plain old hydrogen peroxide is the active ingredient in OxiClean. does anyone know if there are some possible pathogens that are tougher to kill on the outside with "The bleach " method vs. "The Peroxide" method ......... or is dead/ sterile ....really really sterile ....Sincerely dead...with either method ? Both are of equal spectrum ...for treatment of pathogens on "outside " of seeds.???

I ferment in zip bags. Less space, no smell.
For untreated seed, I do a diluted bleach bath before planting. If they are really rare, there's no option other than planting. I won't let a variety dissapear because seed is untreated. As for other methods I've seen saving a tomato and planting that same whole tomato without taking seeds out. |

Plenty of air, just put juice in and close it.

So you have to wait until the O2 is used up before you see the start of fermentation since the latter is an anaerobic process.
Yes? Carolyn

Well, you know I'm slow, so they have plenty of time to use everything.
... said Ilex Yes,slow about some things, and I had to laugh about that, and I'll be sending you an em about that, but ASAP when it comes to helping folks here at Tville by answering questions and clarifying issues with Spanish tomatoes. Carolyn

Few question about seed saving.
First can you ferment seeds too long? Also my containers don't get a thick mat in the top. Does that mean I'm not doing it right? Most the time I don't add water and it's all juice. It will get a clear thin film but not a white mat. -Zach

Drop a tomato in the forest. It's going to spend months fermenting. Eventually the seeds will germinate.
